As you may have read earlier, the first Alolan Pokémon, Alolan Exeggutor, is now available in Pokémon GO. This article compares Alolan and Normal (“Kantonian”) Exeggutor in terms of stats, moves, type coverage and usage. To kick things off, we’ve prepared a simple comparison table that showcases the difference between these two Pokémon (and don’t be fooled, they are fundamentally different):

Alolan Exeggutor is far a great counter for Water typed opponents, such as Kyogre (not vs Blizzard Kyogre) and Suicune. When compared to existing Grass types, it performs similarly to how a normal Exeggutor performs, but with more TDO (Total Damage Output) in scenarios where its typing is beneficial.

In terms of raw DPS and TDO performance, it is still better than a Frenzy Plant Venusaur, by roughly the same amount (5-6%) as a normal, Kantonian, Exeggutor. You can read more about that comparison in our Frenzy Plant Venusaur: A Comprehensive Meta Analysis article.

As a Dragon type, A. Exeggutor performs worse than Dragonite, Rayquaza and Latios/Latias. Dragon Pulse is not a great move, and considering how good Outrage is, it is hard to recommend Exeggutor as a Dragon typed attacker. However, it has an interesting role to play in Latios / Latias raids, as it takes only 51% of damage from Solar Beam (Latios) and Thunder (Latias).

Parting words

Exeggutor was already a great Pokémon, especially versus pure Water types, and its Alolan version is even a better performer in this role. We are not sure how future generations will play out, and if Grass types become more relevant, you want to have an army of strong Alolan Exeggutors.

We suggest you farm them while you can!
