Trainers, Kalos Tour 2026 is on the horizon, and this event is headlined by two of the most beloved Legendaries in Pokémon GO: Xerneas and Yveltal.
Unlike Zygarde, this X and Y duo didn’t get Mega Evolutions in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and they don’t even have special forms like many other Legendaries (read the Primal forces, Fusions, or Crowned forms).
Yet, these two have cemented themselves as top-tier grabs in the game, even with power levels at an all-time high in their metas, (Fairy for Xerneas, Dark and for Yveltal).
So, how good are these two? Both already have their signature moves in their tool box, and have presumably reached their peak (unless a future Gen 6 game gives them special forms).
Let’s dissect the X and Y of the Pokémon world, and assess how strong they are in the Raids and Master League scenes.

Xerneas ends up getting the short end of the type stick as it’s the only one of the Kalos Legendary trio to have a mono typing.
Let’s first check out Xerneas in the Fairy meta, and then go to Yveltal in the Dark and metas.
For this, let’s take the help of our trusty GO Hub DPS TDO Comparer Tool:

- If you see the top Fairy Pokémon, many of them have non-Fairy Fast Moves. With the exception of Zacian Crowned, whose damage output is brutal even without such a Fast Move, and Metal Claw has good synergy with Play Rough (especially for a Dragon moves for the comparison.
- With that in mind, Xerneas is actually a top 5 Fairy-type attacker, behind Enamorus Incarnate.
- Geomancy is a quicker Charm, in fact, but Xerneas gets held back due to an overall lower ATK, and Moonblast being a 1-bar Charged Move, unlike Dazzling Gleam and Play Rough.
- Enamorus Incarnate often gets an edge over Zacian Crowned and the Gardevoirs due to its subtyping, which helps take on STAB Ground moves from Raid Bosses like Mega Zygarde (future?) and Mega Garchomp.
- Defensively, Xerneas has a slight edge over Mega Gardevoir against Dark Bosses due to its resistance.
- Overall, Mega Gardevoir, the top pure Fairy Pokémon is easier and cheaper to max out, doesn’t require an Elite TM, and also has Triple Axel as a secondary Charged Move to take on Dragon Raid Bosses with , Grass, and Ground as a secondary typing.
- In case you lack the resources for a form/Mega/Shadow like the best Fairy types in the list, Xerneas is just behind Enamorus Incarnate in damage output.
- Upcoming Fairy types, including Paradox Pokémon like Flutter Mane and Iron Valiant, can overtake Xerneas with a good moveset.
Let’s embrace the darkness with our GO Hub DPS TDO Comparer Tool:

- It’s really rough for Yveltal in the Dark department, honestly. A starter like Incineroar and a Pokémon like Salamence that doesn’t even get STAB go on to outpace the Legendary Yveltal in damage figures.
- It’s not surprising, actually, as 250 ATK trails behind many of the Pseudo Legendaries, let alone other Legendaries.
- Yveltal learns Foul Play in the main series games. With that move, it gets stronger, hitting DPS at the level of regular Absol.
- Unless Yveltal gets Foul Play (it’s still behind in performance, but better), don’t think about investing in a Yveltal for the Dark meta.

- The -type meta is led by the monstrous Mega Rayquaza, and the next few spots are dominated by Dragons like regular Rayquaza and Salamence (Mega and Shadow). With Fire Fang, the Salamence force is great against Bug and Grass Raid Bosses.
- Similarly, Enamorus Incarnate with Fairy Wind as the Fast Move is great against Fighting types in general.
- On a pure basis, Yveltal, with its signature Oblivion Wing, is quite impressive, boasting nice damage output and excellent bulk.
- Honestly, Dragon Ascent puts the Ray duo in another stratosphere, so for our analysis, let’s take the Shadows and Yveltal into consideration.
- Shadows are a heavy investment, and they lack the defensive strength required to last long in the Raid battle. Mega Pidgeot is just around 1% better than Yveltal.
- All things considered, Yveltal is a great -type Pokémon, and deserves some love.
- Against a Grass/Psychic Pokémon like Iron Leaves, Yveltal is supreme. Note that, unlike many other types, Yveltal takes neutral damage from Fighting attacks.
Xerneas is one of the most dominating Fairy Pokémon in the Master League meta, showcasing a good performance in all shield scenarios, particularly in (0-0) and (1-1).
- In the (1-1), it takes down all core Dragons and even other Fairies (except Zacian Crowned). It even beats Dialga Origin, as Geomancy cuts down the Steel behemoth.
- In the (0-0), access to unrestricted Close Combat is lethal, helping Xerneas beat Zamazenta Crowned, Kyogre, Rhyperior, and Melmetal. It also takes down Landorus Therian.
- In the (2-2), Xerneas slows down a bit, but it still puts a lot of pressure on the opposition. While it gains Eternatus, it loses to Landorus Therian, Kyogre, White Kyurem, and the Close Combat wins against Steel types.
- Overall, it competes with Zacian Crowned (still the top Fairy in this format), Florges, Togekiss, and Enamorus Therian.
With Sucker Punch being a clone of the OG Counter, the relatively cheap Oblivion Wing giving a guaranteed buff to Yveltal’s DEF, and Dark Pulse also having the same 50 energy, Yveltal is one of the scariest contenders in the Master League. Not to mention, its resistances, especially to Ground, are very handy.
- In contrast to Xerneas, who is superb as a closer, Yveltal is deadly as an opener (2-2). It takes down all premier Psychic types, Eternatus, Kyogre, Zacian (Hero), Togekiss, Ho-Oh, and Ground types like Ho-Oh, Landorus Therian, and Rhyperior. It can also use the Obliqion Wing baits to get bulkier when the shields run dry.
- In (1-1), it loses Zacian (Hero), Togekiss, and Eternatus but remains just as dominant.
- Yveltal dims but a bit in the (0-0), also going on to lose Kyogre and Rhyperior. Once again, though, this is just a little dismal compared to its shielded battles.
- Overall, it is deadly in this format, possessing all the tools to have the biggest hand in winning battles.
Yes, for both PvE and PvP, but with certain considerations.
- In Raids, Xerneas is a top-notch Fairy attacker, and Yveltal is a top-notch attacker. Don’t use Yveltal as a Dark type, please!
- While they are both surpassed, the gap between the best attacker in their types is larger for Yveltal (Mega Rayquaza is too powerful). Also, against the types is strong against (Bug, Fighting, and Grass), there is an overall competition from other types for Yveltal (not for Mega Ray lol). This is not always the case for Fairy types as they are often the premier attackers against Dragon Raid Bosses.
- In the Master League, Xerneas and Yveltal are more or less the same, with Xerneas being a better closer and Yveltal being a better lead. However, Yveltal has a less risky and smoother moveset, and gets buffs.
- Keep in mind that both Xerneas and Yveltal are worth using Elite TMs on. However, if you are able to invest in stronger options, go with those!
In Raids, Xerneas gets the edge.
In the Master League, Yveltal gets the edge.
All the best, trainers!
