Zoroark is one of those Pokémon that immediately catches the eye. It has a sleek design, a strong pure Dark typing, and an Attack-focused stat spread. Zoroark double resists Psychic attacks, as well as resisting Ghost and Dark type attacks.

Before the Community Day, Zoroark had access to Snarl and Shadow Claw as Fast Attacks, alongside a varied Charged Attack pool. Its most practical PvE moveset was Snarl paired with Foul Play. But now, Zoroark also has access to Sucker Punch, which gives it a new angle to play with. The key appeal of Zoroark is its offensive stat. It has the kind of Attack value that can produce respectable damage against Psychic and Ghost raid bosses. Its Dark typing also gives it resistance to Psychic and Ghost type moves, meaning it can be a reasonable option against bosses that rely heavily on those attack types. Well, first things first! Sucker Punch doesn’t help Zoroark when it comes to raids. Snarl remains the Fast Attack of choice. Also, Zoroark has a major flaw: it is incredibly frail. Its defensive stats are very low. A raid attacker needs not only high damage per second, it also needs to survive long enough for that damage to add up. This frailty also limits the value of its high Attack. Zoroark may deal damage quickly when it enters a raid, but it often faints before it can use enough Charged Attacks to compete with more durable alternatives.

The Dark raid attacker category is also highly competitive. Zoroark has to compete with Pokémon such as Mega Tyranitar, Shadow Tyranitar, Hydreigon and Darkrai, not to forget that Dark raid attackers also end up competing with Ghost attackers too. These Pokémon offer much greater overall damage, along with substantially better bulk. Mega Tyranitar for example, brings enormous durability and team-wide Mega bonuses. Zoroark, on the other hand, ends up with a performance similar to the likes of Guzzlord and Zarude.

This does not mean that Zoroark has no place in a player’s collection. For newer Trainers, it can function as an accessible and budget Dark attacker if stronger options are unavailable. A high-level Zoroark with Snarl and Foul Play can fill a slot in a team against a Psychic type boss. It is also a reasonable option for players who enjoy building teams around their favorite Pokémon instead of relying only on the absolute best meta choices.

Parting Words

Zoroark is not a top-tier Pokémon GO PvE investment, but it is far from a bad one. It has enough Attack to produce respectable damage. Yet its lack of bulk and the presence of much stronger competitors prevent it from becoming a major raid investment. It can be particularly useful for Trainers who are still building their Dark type teams or simply want to use one of Unova’s most popular Pokémon in battle. Zoroark also has a signature attack in the main games, Night Daze, which is a Dark type attack. That is potentially something for Trainers to look forward to in the future.

Zoroark may not create an illusion of being the best attacker in the game, but it can certainly earn a place on the right team!

Let us know Trainers! Are Zorua and Zororark your favorite evolution line from the Gen V? Which form do you prefer: Unovan or Hisuian? Would you have liked this Communtiy Day to also have featured Hisuian form as well?

And as always, stay safe! Have a great Community Day! May everyone get a SHUNDO!
