Datamining Report: Are Pokémon GO Routes Finally Close to Being Released?

Posted in

Hello Trainers! Pokémon GO has had some texts pushed pertaining to Routes, an upcoming exploration feature that is highly anticipated. Without spoiling anything, this one is a quite lengthy and informative data mine, so let’s dig in!

Please read through all of this with a grain of salt – we often post data mining reports that take months to release, and we don’t want our readers disappointed. Be smart, read this like speculation, and be happy once it goes live.

💡 Disclaimer: You know the drill by now, everything in this article is data mined, and therefore subject to change or not even being released at all. All this information is publicly provided by the PokéMiners and includes some of my commentaries.

It’s time to create your Route!

This is the tutorial for the Routes, the Title for 3 appears to be missing. Not sure if Niantic  or the PokéMiners missed it. There’s also mention here of a single Pokéstop route, so you won’t need to connect multiple stops to create a route, huge for rural trainers.

It appears that you’ll be able to select your start point, and then walk to it to begin recording your route. This suggests that you can map out your route ahead of time and then go and walk the route you’ve selected. It also appears that you’ll be able to make changes along the way, so if you find something interesting along the route you can adjust it.

Speaking of length, it appears that the routes will have a maximum and minimum length and it will be based on how far you’ve walked, not the distance between the Pokéstops.  We know from the settings that were pushed that the minimum length is 100 meters and the maximum length is 20,000 meters

Route Creation Settings

  • Max Open Routes: 5
  • Min Total Distance: 100m
  • Max Total Distance: 20,000m
  • Max Name Length: 50
  • Max Description Length: 240
  • Min Player Level: 100
  • Algorithm used: VISVALINGAM_WHYATT

The settings have been readded.  The Minimum level is set to 100 to ensure that nobody has access to it. I suspect that Niantic has special level 100 testing accounts they use to test things like this.

Some obfuscated settings were also added

  • Two feature flags enabled
  • 9 obfuscated numbers for various settings, they are:
    • 3
    • 1
    • 5
    • 500.0
    • 500
    • 1000
    • 9.0
    • 2.0
    • 11.0

That’s it, it appears that routes are really really close to being done. So hype for that! It will be interesting to see what kind of rewards are offered for routes. A single Pokéstop Route that rewards items could be a huge boon to rural players with a lack of Pokéstops nearby.

Let me know what you think! Until next time, stay safe out there!
