Hello Trainers! Pokémon GO has had some texts pushed pertaining to Routes, an upcoming exploration feature that is highly anticipated. Without spoiling anything, this one is a quite lengthy and informative data mine, so let’s dig in!
Please read through all of this with a grain of salt – we often post data mining reports that take months to release, and we don’t want our readers disappointed. Be smart, read this like speculation, and be happy once it goes live.
💡 Disclaimer: You know the drill by now, everything in this article is data mined, and therefore subject to change or not even being released at all. All this information is publicly provided by the PokéMiners and includes some of my commentaries.
Route Onboarding
RESOURCE ID: route_creation_onboarding_loop_page_desc TEXT: You have selected the same PokéStop as your start and end point. This will create a loop Route. To finish a loop Route, return to your start point when you’re ready to stop recording your path. RESOURCE ID: route_creation_onboarding_loop_page_title TEXT: Loop Route RESOURCE ID: route_creation_onboarding_title_1 TEXT: How to Create a Route RESOURCE ID: route_creation_onboarding_page_1 TEXT: Create a Route in three easy steps! 1. Select the start point and end point. 2. Walk between these points. 3. Name and describe your Route! RESOURCE ID: route_creation_onboarding_title_2 TEXT: Criteria RESOURCE ID: route_creation_onboarding_page_2 TEXT: Routes must: 1. Be between {0} km and {1} km. 2. Be in safe areas and not go through private property. 3. Have a clear description and theme. RESOURCE ID: route_creation_onboarding_page_3 TEXT: Place pins along your Route to mark interesting highlights! Pins must be placed: 1. Within {0} meters of the Route’s path. 2. At least {1} meters away from other pins. RESOURCE ID: route_creation_onboarding_title_4 TEXT: Review Process RESOURCE ID: route_creation_onboarding_page_4 TEXT: Created Routes are submitted to Niantic for review and approval. If your Route is rejected, you may be given a chance to edit and resubmit it. It’s time to create your Route!
This is the tutorial for the Routes, the Title for 3 appears to be missing. Not sure if Niantic or the PokéMiners missed it. There’s also mention here of a single Pokéstop route, so you won’t need to connect multiple stops to create a route, huge for rural trainers.
Create New Routes
Starting Your New Route
RESOURCE ID: create_new_route_button TEXT: Create New Route RESOURCE ID: route_creation_ask_start_title TEXT: You’re near the start point you selected. Are you ready to record the path for your Route? RESOURCE ID: routes_begin_creation_button TEXT: Confirm and Proceed RESOURCE ID: record_new_route TEXT: RECORD NEW ROUTE RESOURCE ID: route_creation_choose_new_start_body TEXT: Navigate to this PokéStop to begin recording your Route. RESOURCE ID: route_creation_choose_start_body TEXT: Navigate to this PokéStop to begin recording your Route. RESOURCE ID: routes_start_at TEXT: Start at: RESOURCE ID: route_creation_selected_points_header TEXT: Selected start and end points: RESOURCE ID: routes_remove_start_point TEXT: REMOVE START POINT RESOURCE ID: routes_remove_start_point_toast TEXT: Start point reset. RESOURCE ID: route_recording_started TEXT: Recording started.
It appears that you’ll be able to select your start point, and then walk to it to begin recording your route. This suggests that you can map out your route ahead of time and then go and walk the route you’ve selected. It also appears that you’ll be able to make changes along the way, so if you find something interesting along the route you can adjust it.
Pause and Resume
RESOURCE ID: route_creation_ask_start_pause_button TEXT: Pause Route Creation RESOURCE ID: route_creation_action_menu_pause TEXT: Pause Route Creation RESOURCE ID: route_creation_ask_submit_cancel TEXT: CONTINUE RECORDING RESOURCE ID: route_creation_action_menu_resume TEXT: Resume Route Recording RESOURCE ID: route_creation_ask_start_description TEXT: If you aren’t ready to record, you can pause your Route creation session and resume it later via the Route section of your Trainer profile. RESOURCE ID: route_creation_pause_button TEXT: Pause Route RESOURCE ID: route_creation_pause_header TEXT: Are you sure you want to pause Route creation? RESOURCE ID: route_creation_pause_message TEXT: Your progress will be saved. Return to this location to resume recording the path for your Route. RESOURCE ID: route_recording_paused TEXT: Recording paused. RESOURCE ID: route_recording_resumed TEXT: Recording resumed. RESOURCE ID: routes_change TEXT: Change RESOURCE ID: routes_current_path_length TEXT: CURRENT ROUTE LENGTH:
It looks like you’ll be able to pause and resume recording your routes, and it looks like it will save your progress so you can return to it later. This will be handy for longer routes if something comes up, you won’t have to start from the beginning.
Minimum and Maximum Length
RESOURCE ID: route_creation_min_distance_title TEXT: Your Route does not meet the minimum required length. RESOURCE ID: route_creation_min_distance_description TEXT: You are near the end point you selected, but your path is too short. RESOURCE ID: route_creation_min_distance_instructions TEXT: Extend your Route either by resuming recording and returning to this end point later or by selecting a new end point. RESOURCE ID: routes_path_length_min TEXT: (MIN: {0} KM) RESOURCE ID: route_creation_min_distance_values TEXT: Minimum length: {0} km Current length: <color=#F2A64B>{1} km</color> RESOURCE ID: route_creation_max_distance_warning_title TEXT: Your Route is nearing the maximum length. RESOURCE ID: route_creation_max_distance_exceeded_description TEXT: Your Route has exceeded the maximum length, so Route creation has ended. RESOURCE ID: route_creation_max_distance_exceeded_title TEXT: Route creation has ended. RESOURCE ID: route_creation_max_distance_warning_button TEXT: SEE OPTIONS RESOURCE ID: route_creation_max_distance_warning_description TEXT: Route creation will automatically stop if your Route exceeds the maximum length. RESOURCE ID: route_creation_max_distance_warning_instructions TEXT: End your Route soon, or you may lose your current progress. RESOURCE ID: routes_path_length_max TEXT: (MAX: {0} KM) RESOURCE ID: route_creation_max_distance_warning_values TEXT: Maximum length: {0} km Current length: <color=#F2A64B>{1} km</color>
Speaking of length, it appears that the routes will have a maximum and minimum length and it will be based on how far you’ve walked, not the distance between the Pokéstops. We know from the settings that were pushed that the minimum length is 100 meters and the maximum length is 20,000 meters
This is the colour for the Maximum & Minumum Length text

Finishing up the Route maker. You can name your route, and select a header colour. There’s also an option for your trainer name to be included, or not if you prefer to remain anonymous. You’ll also be able to review the path of the route prior to submitting it.

RESOURCE ID: route_submission_result_success_title TEXT: Your Route was successfully submitted for review!
Submitting your Route for Review. No indication if this will go into general voting like Wayspot nominations, or if they will require a Niantic review. You will be able to check their status at any time, so it will likely have an “In voting” status much like Wayspots. It also appears that the game will reject any titles or descriptions that include inappropriate words.

It looks like Niantic isn’t fooling around with Routes. Many ban messages, including one that says you can be banned for multiple years.
Route Creation Settings
- Max Open Routes: 5
- Min Total Distance: 100m
- Max Total Distance: 20,000m
- Max Name Length: 50
- Max Description Length: 240
- Min Player Level: 100
- Algorithm used: VISVALINGAM_WHYATT
The settings have been readded. The Minimum level is set to 100 to ensure that nobody has access to it. I suspect that Niantic has special level 100 testing accounts they use to test things like this.
Some obfuscated settings were also added
- Two feature flags enabled
- 9 obfuscated numbers for various settings, they are:
- 3
- 1
- 5
- 500.0
- 500
- 1000
- 9.0
- 2.0
- 11.0
That’s it, it appears that routes are really really close to being done. So hype for that! It will be interesting to see what kind of rewards are offered for routes. A single Pokéstop Route that rewards items could be a huge boon to rural players with a lack of Pokéstops nearby.
Let me know what you think! Until next time, stay safe out there!
