Datamining Report: Gimmie Gimmie Gimmighoul

Posted in

Hello Trainers! Some new texts have been pushed to the game, and we’re getting a pretty much full view of how Gimmighoul is going to work in Pokémon GO!

Please read through all of this with a grain of salt – we often post data mining reports which end up taking months to release, and we don’t want our readers to be disappointed. Be smart, read this like speculation, and be happy once it goes live.

💡 Disclaimer: You know the drill by now, everything in this article is data mined, and therefore subject to change or not even being released at all. All of this information is publicly provided by the PokéMiners and includes some of my commentaries.

Gimmighoul

For those of you who don’t know, Gimmighoul is a Pokémon that was introduced in the Pokémon main series games Scarlet and Violet.  It has two forms, roaming form and chest form.  Chest form is the form that you can catch in Scarlet and Violet, and it appears that its roaming form will be exclusive to Pokémon GO.

Gimmighoul’s first appearance in Pokémon GO was right after Dratini Community Day Classic when Pokéstops started turning gold and dropping strange coins. Since then we haven’t seen or heard from the little guy, but now thanks to the Pokéminers (who by the way, were the first to break this new Pokémon’s existence, kudos to them) we have a full look at how Gimmighoul will work in Pokémon GO.

The Coin Bag will act like any other incense, almost exactly like the Meltan Mystery Box in that you can only use it once per day, and it will spawn a singular Pokémon: Gimmighoul. It won’t work if you have another incense running, Mystery Box, Daily Adventure Incense, or regular Incense.

The Gimmighoul coin now has a proper name.

Catching Gimmighoul

It appears catching Gimmighoul will drop coins, we’ll have to wait to see how many coins we’ll get per catch. This could open up the possibility of other Pokémon dropping other items.

Sparkly Lure aka Golden Lure

The wording on this is different from the incense. It appears that the Golden Lure will spawn Pokémon like a regular Lure, but it will drop Gimmighoul coins when you spin the stop.

+RESOURCE ID: saturday_send_gift_daily_limit

In order to activate the Coin Bag you need to send a postcard to a Nintendo Switch. (Saturday is the code name for Scarlet and Violet). You will only be able to send each postcard once, and there will be a limit to how many you can send a day.  Sending a postcard from your game to the Switch will not remove it from your game.

Evolving Gimmighoul

+RESOURCE ID: pokemon_info_evolve_need_key_item_count
+TEXT: Need {0} more {1}

In Scarlet and Violet, you need 1000 coins to evolve Gimmighoul. I don’t see any reason it will be any different in Pokémon Go.

Conclusion

So here’s how it looks how this all will work.

You send a postcard to a Nintendo Switch, and in turn, the Sparkly Incense (Gold bag) is activated and it will spawn Gimmighoul. Catching Gimmighoul will cause it to drop coins.

Using the Golden Lure will cause a Pokéstop to spawn Pokémon and drop coins when you spin it.

Collecting 1000 coins will allow you to evolve Gimmighoul into Gholdengo, which is a beast in Scarlet and Violet.

They’ll need to force the latest version of the game before they can launch this, so expect that pretty soon.

That’s all for now.  Stay safe out there.
