Pumpkaboo Shiny Odds Fixed with Boosted 1/256 Rate Now Live!

Trainers participating in the ongoing Harvest Festival 2024 event may have noticed something strange. Since the event started, reports have been pouring in about a surprisingly low number of shiny Pumpkaboo encounters — despite Niantic’s promise to boost the shiny rate.

It looks like shiny Pumpkaboo boost wasn’t working as expecting initially, but the issue has been fixed now. Here’s what went down:

  • Initial Shiny Rate confusion: Niantic initially announced a boosted shiny rate for Pumpkaboo during the event, promising to increase it from the usual 1 in 512 to a much friendlier rate. However, once the event kicked off, Trainers noticed that the shiny odds didn’t seem to reflect this change.
  • Reddit and X Outcry: Trainers on Reddit and X started posting their catch rates, with most saying that the shiny boost was working at all. As you can imagine, the tweets were quite spicy
  • The Fix: After several hours of reports and feedback, Niantic silently fixed the issue adjusting the shiny rate to somewhere around 1 in 256 encounters

Unfortunately, Trainers in New Zealand and other early time zones missed out on an entire day of shiny hunting with the boosted odds. So far, there’s no word on whether Niantic will extend the event to make up for the misstep.

During the Harvest Festival event, Pumpkaboo is available as a Wild Spawn and from “Use 5/10 Berries to help catch Pokémon” Field Research tasks.

Harvest Festival ends on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. local time.
