Niantic has announced that further changes are going to be made to the raid system, and the gym battle system! The raid system has recently been changed quite dramatically, with a whole new meta being forced.
“Pokémon GO’s raid and Gym battle experiences are being improved globally! These updates are intended to improve stability, reduce latency, and make it easier to add new features in the future. Updates include changes to the damage outputs, energy generation, and durations of certain Pokémon attacks for raids and Gym battles only.”
As of yet we don’t know what this entails, but we are excited by the prospect of a new gym battle system! Trainers have long desired an updated to the gym system to make defending and battling in gyms more interesting, so fingers crossed this is something totally new.

Niantic has also confirmed compensation for an error that occurred on October 3rd 2024 that caused both Raid Battles and Max Battles to be much more difficult than intended, leaving trainers unable to complete them in many cases.
The below will be added via Timed Research to affected Trainer accounts. Trainers must claim the research in order to receive the contents. These Timed Research will expire on April 9th, 2025 at 11:59pm local time.
Trainers who lost a Max Battle during the affected period will receive:
- 400 Max Particle
- 10 Revives
- 10 Hyper Potions
Trainers who lost a Raid Battle during the affected period will receive:
- 10 Revives
- 10 Hyper Potions
- 1 Premium Battle Pass
