Shiny Abra, Shiny Clefairy and a New “Sneak Peek” PokéStop Spotted

Shiny Horsea
Shiny Horsea Global Release

We’re now one day into Pokémon Go Fest in Chicago, and already there’s plenty to talk about. From a new Mythical, to a new Shiny and an update on the Global Challenge, here’s the Go Fest Edition of our News Roundup.

Jirachi Released

Just as Celebi was released into the game at last year’s Go Fest, this year brings with it a brand new series of Special Research challenges that ultimately reward the Gen3 Mythical Pokémon, Jirachi. The Special Research Quest Line to obtain Jirachi, contains tasks that are specific to the location of Go Fest, so once it’s released to the rest of the world, the required tasks will certainly be different.

It just wouldn’t be Pokémon Go event without Unown showing up! The Unown letters W A K E U P are spawning at increased rates – the lore around Jirachi states that it “hibernates for extensive periods. It awakens for seven days every thousand years, but can also be woken if sung to by a voice of purity.” So it seems that the Unown are trying to give these musical Pokémon a hand in waking up the hibernating Jirachi…

New Shinies

While Shiny Horsea was announced before the event, there were a couple of surprises when the shiny forms of Abra and Clefairy were also caught. It now seems that these may have been released by mistake as no reports have been posted since shortly after Go Fest opened.

Increased Global Spawns

Pokémon relevant to the Go Fest ‘Habitats’ are also spawning worldwide, such as Horsea, Snorunt, Sableye, Geodude, Sandshrew, Drifloon, Misdreavous, Wailmer, Snubbull, Clefairy, Marill, Sneasel, Psyduck, Cubone, Swinub and more, most of which have their shiny forms available.

Shiny rates for these Pokémon may have been increased slightly, with many more shiny encounters than usual being reported yesterday, worldwide.

Global Challenge Results After Day 1

With three days to go until Go Fest Chicago 2019 closes, the Global Challenge of each team completing 15m Field Research tasks each, seems to be slightly behind target. Go Fest attendees’ challenge of completing 1m tasks collectively, however, is well on course. If we want to see Raikou (and its Shiny form) in Raid Battles next weekend (TBC) then we need to all get out there this weekend and really hit those Research tasks hard. These were the official totals at the close of play yesterday:

“Sneak Peek” Pokéstop

The Pokéstop below, named “Sneak Peek” has been spotted at Go Fest and is speculated to be a hint at some sort of future event involving exciting Pokémon like Gible and the Lake Guardians, Azelf, Uxie, and Mesprit, which are currently Regional and incredibly rare in the wild. But then again, it could just be the next loading screen…
