Zekrom and Mega Altaria storm into Pokémon GO raids

Posted in

Zekrom and Mega Altaria have taken over Pokémon GO’s 5-Star and Mega Raids on December 9, at 10:00 a.m. local time, replacing Reshiram and Mega Scizor in their respective tiers. Zekrom and Mega Altaria will be available until December 16, 10:00 am local time.

These two powerful Pokémon have brought a new wave of supporting raid bosses, including some long-forgotten fan favourites like Piloswine and Dewgong.

Let’s see what’s new in Pokémon GO Raids this week!

New Raid Bosses from December 9 – 16, 2023

The following Raid Bosses are available in Pokémon GO right now, and some will be available throughout the entire next week, while some will be replaced once the Pokémon GO Adamant Time Event starts on December 11, 2023.

5-Star Raids

Zekrom

Available from 10:00 AM local time on December 9, 2023, to 10:00 AM local time on December 16, 2023.

Zekrom is one of the strongest Electric-type legendaries, and despite it’s double Dragon typing, it fares much better when used as an Electric-type attacker. Unfortunately for us all, Zekrom’s strongest Electric-type move is not available during this Raid rotation, so the best you can go for is a strong Charge Beam / Wild Charge Zekrom. Shadow Raikou and Xuriktree are still better options in terms of DPS, but Zekrom is not far behind. Definitely worth using Remote Raid Passes on, especially since shiny Zekrom is available!

Mega Raids (4-Star)

Altaria (Mega)

Available from 10:00 AM local time on December 9, 2023, to 10:00 AM local time on December 16, 2023.

Mega Altaria is one of the strangest Mega Pokémon out there, as it is not powerful enough to be used as a primary counter, but its Dragon and Fairy typing makes it super unique and valuable as a support character, both for additional Candy per catch, and as a damage booster in Raids.

We do recommend having at least one Mega-evolvable Altaria, but don’t overextend with spending Stardust on power-ups. Our Mega Altaria Raid Counters Guide is up to date and ready.

3-Star Raids

Available from 10:00 AM local time on December 9, 2023, to 10:00 AM local time on December 11, 2023.

Sandslash, Dewgong, Sudowoodo, and Piloswine are the supporting raid bosses this time around. We think that Piloswine will be the most popular choice, as its evolution – Mamoswine – is an Ice type powerhouse. Trainers who haven’t had the chance to get a decent Mamoswine should definitely pay attention to this Raid. It’s easy to solo, should be relatively inexpensive to power up and evolve, and Mamoswine’s best move sets do not include any unobtainable moves.

Dewgong and Sudowoodo are interesting for PvP, primarily in the Great League. Here are all the counter guides we have for this group:

The 1-Star Tier is rather uninspiring this time around, but fortunately, all of the Pokémon in this tier can be Shiny. If you’re missing a shiny from this group, these Raids may be interesting for you. We think it’s high time you get yourself a shiny Shinx, wouldn’t you agree?
