Existing Pokémon with New Paldean Gen 9 Evolutions to Look Forward to

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have been out for a couple of months now, and bring with them so many new and exciting Pokémon, including some evolutions for existing Pokémon we all know and love! These new Paldean evolutions will eventually make their way to Pokémon GO, and as they all already have shiny pre-evolutions in Pokémon GO, we thought we’d share which Pokémon to keep an eye out for in GO, in preparation for these new evolutions.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet also gave us new regional forms, divergent forms, and Paradox forms, but we won’t cover them in this article. The artwork shown is each Pokémon’s Official Art, and the sprites are their current sprites in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Farigiraf

Farigiraf
Farigiraf

First up, the Long Neck Pokémon Farigiraf, evolving from Girafarig. It evolves from Girafarig when levelled up whilst knowing the move Twin Beam. It sticks with the palindrome naming convention for the evolution, both Girafarig, and Farigiraf are the same forward as they are backwards! It is a Normal and Psychic type Pokémon, and once evolved what was once two heads on Girafarig, becomes on single head, with the former tail head protecting the original head.

Their Pokédex entries read as follows:

Scarlet Now that the brain waves from the head and tail are synced up, the psychic power of this Pokémon is 10 times stronger than Girafarig’s.
Violet The hardened head from the tail protects the head of the main body as Farigiraf whips its long neck around to headbutt enemies.

Annihilape

Annihilape

Annihilape is a new evolution for the Mankey line, evolving from Mankey’s evolution, Primeape, when levelled up after using the move Rage Fist 20 times. It gains a typing when it evolves, becoming a Fighting and Ghost type. It is known as the Rage Monkey Pokémon, and has a really incredible design. It has broken some of the shackles that Primeape had, and has become so full of rage veins are bursting through its skin, and its eyes have turned red. There is speculation that the evolution is and added Ghost typing may have been inspired by Primeape’s Pokédex entry in Pokémon Sun, which states that Primeape can become so angry that it dies as a result. Annihilape has a lot of potential in GO due to their typing and stats, and may have some potential in PvP.

Their Pokédex entries read as follows:

Scarlet When its anger rose beyond a critical point, this Pokémon gained power that is unfettered by the limits of its physical body.
Violet It imbues its fists with the power of the rage that it kept hidden in its heart. Opponents struck by these imbued fists will be shattered to their core.

Dudunsparce

Dudunsparce
Dundunsparce two segment form

The Pokémon Company truly went the meme route with the new Dunsparce evolution, Dudunsparce. Dunsparce is surprisingly popular, and people have been begging for an evolution for a long time and finally, we have it, in truly a ridiculous way. Dudunsparce is bound to divide Pokémon trainers, who will either love it (like me), or hate it and think it is lazy. The Land Snake Pokémon evolves from Dunsparce when it is levelled up knowing the move Hyper Drill, and it has two different forms it can evolve into, two segment, or three segment. The three segment form of Dudunsparce is incredibly rare, with only a 1 in 100 chance of getting that extra segment in the main series. It sticks with the Normal typing, and the shiny is also exactly the same design as Dunsparce. It will be interesting to see how this split evolution is eventually handled in GO in the future, as split evolutions have proved problematic for Niantic so far. The additional segment does not have any impact on stats, and is purely aesthetic.

Their Pokédex entries read as follows:

Two-Segment Form

Scarlet This Pokémon uses its hard tail to make its nest by boring holes into bedrock deep underground. The nest can reach lengths of over six miles.
Violet It drives enemies out of its nest by sucking in enough air to fill its long, narrow lungs, then releasing the air in an intense blast.

Three-Segment Form

Scarlet The gentle Dudunsparce will put Pokémon that wander into its nest onto its back and carry them to the entrance.
Violet A recent study uncovered that the number of segments a Dudunsparce’s body has is determined by the Pokémon’s genes.

Kingambit

Kingambit
Kingambit

Kingambit is a new evolution for the Pawniard line, evolving from Bisharp. It is a tricky evolution in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, requiring holding a Leader’s Crest, and then using the Bisharp to defeat three other Bisharp that also hold the Leader’s Crest. It sticks with the same typing as Pawniard and Bisharp, Dark and Steel, and takes on the appearance of a Samurai, sitting on a throne. It follows the chess themed naming convention its pre-evolutions also have, pawn in Pawniard, Bishop for Bisharp, and now king for Kingambit. Gambit is also a chess term, and is an opening that requires sacrificing pawns in order to gain a subsequent advantage in the game. Kingambit has some great stats in the main series, so it will be interesting to see how they transfer over to GO and what potential it has.

Their Pokédex entries read as follows:

Scarlet Only a Bisharp that stands above all others in its vast army can evolve into Kingambit.
Violet Though it commands a massive army in battle, it’s not skilled at devising complex strategies. It just uses brute strength to keep pushing.
