Besides essential items such as Pokéballs or berries Pokémon GO bag also stores special items. Their use is described below.
Lucky Egg
All experience trainer gets are doubled when using Lucky Egg. It lasts for 30 minutes and includes all activities such as catching pokémon, hatching eggs, spinning pokéstops/gym discs, feeding berries to gym defenders, defeating a raid boss and most importantly evolving Pokémon. They are available in in-game shop and as the rewards for leveling up.
During the double XP events, if not said otherwise, experience are quadrupled. It is the best opportunity to evolve all saved up new Pokédex entries for 4000 XP each. Lucky Eggs provides the most efficient XP gain during mass evolutions or multiple legendary raids in a row.

Star Piece
Star Piece is a special item introduced in version 0.85.1 and first featured in special Christmas boxes in 2017. It works the same way Lucky Eggs do with a little twist – it gives only 50% additional Stardust for 30 minutes instead of double.
Their use is also similar to Lucky Eggs, but this time the spotlight is on double stardust events and hatching as many 10 km eggs in a row as possible. Other profitable activities include regular daily bonus, 7-day streak catch bonus, catching weather boosted Pokémon and the berry feeding.

Incense and Lure Modules
Both of these items provide additional Pokémon spawns for 30 minutes. Lure modules are placed into Pokéstop and spawn Pokémon that are visible for everyone within the range. On contrary, Incense spawns are exclusive for the trainer. They are available in in-game shop.
Pokémon from Lures are differentiated from others by a pink circle beneath them. After placing the module the first Pokémon spawns immediately and then there is another one every 3 minutes. This adds up to 10 Pokémon in total. Pokémon despawn shortly before the next spawn occurs.
Incense attracts Pokémon at the higher rate while moving. It is estimated to 1 Pokémon per 5 minutes while standing and 1 pokémon per 200 meters when moving. The optimal speed is 8 mph/12 kmh. Incense will then spawn one Pokémon per minute. Note that there is a speed limit, moving faster than 60 mph/100 kmh will make the Pokémon jump out and flee after the first ball guaranteed.
Spawns are influenced by nearby Pokémon, biome and the weather. Incense and Lure Modules do not attract nest Pokémon. If Incense is used in so-called deadzones (locations with no Pokémon in Sightings eg. a sea or mountain) it will draw more randomly from the Pokémon pool bringing in more variety and rarer spawns. The same applies to Lure Modules “in the middle of nowhere” as well.
