This month we asked to see photos of your favourite shiny Pokémon in Pokémon GO, and what a mixture of different Pokémon we saw submitted! Incredible entries from our amazing AR community as always.
The below AR images have not been edited in any way.
‘Tales of Tin and Gold’ by mingosanch, Kyoto, Japan.
‘I grew up playing Pokémon Gold Version, so seeing real-world locations that inspired in-game locations—such as how Tin Tower was based in part on Tō-ji Temple—was an incredible experience. Naturally, I had to take a picture of Ho-Oh with the pagoda! The redish tint of the wood at sunset matches the color of Shiny Ho-Oh extremely well.’
‘sleep in spring’ by TAKA-RV, Japan Toyama Prefecture.
‘I took a photo of Tarantula looking sleepy on a cherry tree.’
‘The Last Thing You’ll Ever See’ by Feresk, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, Philippines.
‘Silent flight. Eyes that can see in the dark. Talons sharp and powerful. Very few stand a chance.’
‘The healing power of flowers.’ by nana15AR, Hiroshima City, Japan.
‘It felt like I was melting into the gentle anemone.’
‘Impact’ by mingosanch, Kyoto, Japan.
‘My brother and I visited Tenryū-ji Temple during our trip to Japan earlier this year. The pattens and colors of the shoji screens and tatami mats perfectly complemented Shiny Hitmonlee! I’m really proud of how dynamic this photo looks with Hitmonlee’s leg coming straight towards the viewer.’
‘Dancing Trio’ by Ayush7983, Mathura, India.
‘I went to this supercool Fair in my town. My Oricorios jumped out of their pokeballs listening to the folk music. We ate , danced, and had a lot of fun that day.’
‘Grubbin by ACE📸, Tokyo, Japan.
‘He found a comfortable bed.’
‘Battle in the snow’ by Mark, Derbyshire, UK.
‘Tried to find some shiny Pokémon that are my top favourites but not as blue as my other favourites (Snorunt!) and available in Pokémon GO!
Ponyta (both forms) are fantastic shinies and the blue flame form is one I hunted for many months in the early days. The Galarian variety looks so fluffy and it’s pastel colour scheme makes it look elegant Wooloo’s black sheep form is one of those typically good black shinies, and Minccino was released on my birthday and I managed to get the soft pink shiny!
A trio of fun shinies! ‘
‘Thumbelina’ by nana15AR, Hiroshima City, Japan.
‘The inside of the rose smells nice’
‘Whip-Speed’ by Embravery, Idaho, United States.
‘Servine is a very sleek looking Pokemon, and its animations show off its serpentine motions very well. When I first got into Pokemon, I got a Servine plushie that cemented my love for it always and forever! Having Auburn as my Best Buddy lets me attract more attention to this beautiful middle stage!’
‘A Day In The Park’ by Decidrea, Indiana, United States.
‘I was strolling though a park when a cute swing caught my eye. I never liked those swings, but I wanted to find some use for it, like pushing a sibling or a friend. That’s when the idea for this photo came into my mind, with a nice homely pokemon to enjoy the swing.’
‘Morning at a world heritage site’ by TAKA-RV, Japan Gifu Prefecture.
‘Pokémon who visited the World Heritage Site Gassho-zukuri built the castle and took pictures of it looking like they were having fun.’
‘Mega Sableye’ by ACE📸, Tokyo, Japan.
‘The enlarged jewel is said to boast such incredible hardness that no attack can even leave a scratch on it.’
‘Rogue Spirit’ by Feresk, Baguio City, Cordillera Administrative Region, Philippines.
‘Only managed to take a few shots of this terrifying spirit before barely escaping with my life.’
‘Little Ray of Sunshine’ by Embravery, Indiana, United States.
‘I love playing with light when I do photography. Somehow, the lighting on this river looked almost golden, so Little Ray fit right in! I love photographing rivers, and lighting and composition are some of my favorite photography elements.’
‘Urban Raptor’ by mingosanch, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.
‘Last winter, I walked under an overpass during a nighttime walk in Cincinnati. The yellow lights really popped and stood out against the shadows of the unlit background. It was such a cool spot that I knew I needed to take an AR photo! Shiny Skarmory’s colors match the different colors of the scene. I took numerous pictures with Skarmory in a variety of poses, but my favorite is this one where it looks like Skarmory is flying in from the left side of the frame.’
‘Blue’ by Walker, Shizuoka, Japan.
‘Three shiny Necrozmas mesmerized me.’
‘Princess Azula’ by CaneroTheGreat, Parcul Tineretului, București, România.
‘Princess Azula, with her gorgeous blue flames, guards the entrance to the Firelord’s palace, awaiting the coming of the Avatar’
‘I love autumn.’ by nana15AR, Hiroshima City, Japan.
‘The colorful autumn is exciting.’
‘I’ll give you an umbrella.’ by TAKA-RV, Japan Toyama Prefecture.
‘I saw a kind Cleffa holding an umbrella to a hydrangea flower that was getting wet in the rain.’
‘Embrace the Sun’ by Embravery, Idaho, United States.
‘Mesprit was my first ever Pokemon. It wasn’t the first one I owned, but when I was little, my cousin was obsessed with Shaymin and wanted me to roleplay with her. Out of her book of Sinnoh Pokemon, I chose to play Mesprit, and that was my first ever taste of Pokemon. Now, years later, finding a shiny Mesprit was like coming full circle, returning to my roots. Avril rises with the sun as a new dawn of my training begins!’
‘Seance’ by Decidrea, Indiana, United States.
‘I found a circle of rocks by the sidewalk in the park and figured it looked like a seance circle. I remembered litwicks disturbing lore, and thought it fit perfectly. I found that the blue flame was more striking than the purple one, so my shiny litwick was summoned.’
‘Foggy Morning Monsters’ by DJWeeji, Ohio, United States.
‘I decided to take advantage of a foggy morning at a lake near my house.’
‘Spectral Wave’ by mingosanch, Tokyo, Japan.
‘To this day, the Shining Mew promo from CoroCoro is one of my favorite Pokémon card artworks. When I visited an immersive art experience at teamLab Planets in Tokyo, there was a water exhibition with rainbow colors that instantly reminded me of the background of that Shining Mew card. It took many, many tries to finally get an AR photo of Mew without any people in the background, but the wait was worth it! I’m so happy with how vibrant the background colors look, especially considering this is an unedited photo!’
‘imitation of Sewaddle.’ by TAKA-RV, Japan Toyama Prefecture.
‘At Sewaddle’s community day, the Caterpie who wanted to play with Sewaddle imitated the leaves.’
‘Moonlit Serenity’ by mingosanch, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.
‘This photo is particularly special for me. I had a week of constant flooding in my apartment, which happened to coincide with the Dusk Rockruff release. That meant I wasn’t able to play for most of the event. When the plumbing issues were finally fixed in my building, I took a short walk. During that walk, I was lucky enough to not just get a Dusk Rockruff, but a Shiny Dusk Rockruff!
The photo itself was a lot of fun to take. It was freezing outside, and I saw that the wind was blowing steam coming out of a vent from a nearby building. The steam was unpredictable, so it took lots of attempts to get the right composition. Lycanroc divides the frame in half, with white mist on the left and darkness on the right. It perfectly captures how Dusk Form is a mixture of light and darkness!’

‘Let’s Play Tag!’ by Decidrea, Indiana, United States.
‘It was autumn, and my backyard was covered in leaves. I found it so beautiful with all of its yellows and oranges, and I had just looked at the entries and the new category for the AR competitions. I looked at all my shiny pokemon and found the striking yellow orange shiny forms of Latias and Uxie. They both had swooping actions, but I mainly took a bunch of photos and picked the best. I was going through them and saw that this picture looked like tag, and they were running through the forest. I loved it!’
‘Richly colored’ by siras_bosi, Japan.
‘I imagined the deep sea’
The below images are taken by our AR Masters.
‘Whirlipede’ by kittypokemonsalot, Lincolnshire, UK.
‘I’m a huge fan of Whirlipede, and I can’t really explain why! There is something about how alien and unusual the design is compared to a lot of the other Bug type middle evolutions. The shiny isn’t hugely different, but I love that pop of teal on the outside!
For the final month of 2024, we want to see your favourite photos that you took in 2024! Submit by 25th December here (multiple entries welcome!)
