‘The long-awaited first snow of the season has fallen in Tokyo. The snow is transforming the entire area into a world of silver. As if cherishing the limited time before it melts, I took many pictures. In the midst of this silent, snowy landscape, Greninja is quietly concentrating its mind. Shutting out the cold of the snow, the sound of the wind, everything, Greninja is simply facing its own inner self.’

‘Groudon’s Drought in Pokémon Ruby was one of the first times I had ever seen a Pokémon change the weather in a game. I didn’t know much about what it did as a kid within the actual gameplay, but as I got older and realized more of how Pokémon weather mechanics work I thought it was really cool. Last year while I was with exploring NY with my partner, it was pretty hot one day and we had the idea to capitalize on that in a photo. We also thought it would be pretty cute to add Castform changing its form to match the sun’s rays.’

‘I am a VGC player in addition to a GO photographer/editor. One of my favorite archetypes to play is teams focused on rain, with Pelipper being a great rain setter and Urshifu being a great partner due to the rain increasing the power of its Water-type moves. I thought to make use of that in this picture, with Pelipper using Weather Ball (which changes type based on the weather) and Urshifu going in for the Surging Strikes.’

‘I was walking to a train after a local tournament during the snow and saw a great chance by a park to take a photo of Alolan Vulpix. Vulpix has the ability in-game to start snowy weather, and I just imagine that a fox like Alolan Vulpix would be very happy to see snowfall.’
