Trainers,
it seems that the gym rework is inching closer by the hour, as Niantic’s official support site is now displaying a banner with the following message:
Heads Up: Gyms will soon be closing temporarily for remodeling. Any Pokémon you’ve assigned to Gyms will be returned to you at that time.
The banner went up roughly 15 hours ago and has remained up the entire time. Aside from this banner, we have official confirmation from Niantic’s community managers that they will be notifying the player base using social media channels:
“As we get ready to update Pokémon GO, we want to ensure that Trainers have a sufficient heads up that Gyms will soon be disabled so that they can collect their Defender bonus. We will provide updates on our social channels in advance of Gyms closing in-game.”

A potential leak
In other news, a potential leak about the details of the Gym rework system has appeared on Youtube, with a German news reporter at E3. It’s unclear if Niantic actually shared any info as it’s impossible to verify any of the claims in the clip.
The interview is in German and it doesn’t look very convincing, but mentions two things:
- Pokémon feeding while they’re in a Gym
- Group play (not clear if it refers to current multi-player gym fights or a new feature)
