Ever since the addition of Hoopa in the current loading screen, Trainers have been wondering how and when it would be introduced into Pokémon GO.
We now finally have all the answers to our questions with the announcement of the Season of Mischief which will be a new and exciting event coming soon!
Not only will Hoopa become available, but we will also be granted plenty of other bonuses including tasks, rare Pokémon, habitat changes, and more. We will be breaking down this announcement so that you don’t miss any important details.

Trainers, The strange events of Pokémon GO Fest 2021 continue in the Season of Mischief! This Season will focus on an adventure featuring Hoopa, the Mischief Pokémon, which you’ll be able to encounter early on in this Season’s Special Research story: Misunderstood Mischief!
When Hoopa summoned Legendary Pokémon to Pokémon GO during Pokémon GO Fest 2021, time and space were distorted. Hoopa has also brought Pokémon originally discovered in the Galar region to Pokémon GO for the first time! Be sure to follow along during the Season to see what else might happen!
Date & Time
The Season of Mischief will run from Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. to Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. local time.
Hoopa is Arriving
HoopaBeginning September 1, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. local time, you’ll be able to access a season-long Special Research story. Throughout the Season of Mischief, you’ll gain access to different sets of tasks in this Special Research story. For instance, you’ll be able to encounter Confined Hoopa by completing a set of tasks that’ll unlock beginning September 5.
This is what we have all been waiting for. Hoopa, the mischief Pokémon will be available to unlock by completing this season’s Special Research story. The portals in the sky which players can see have been created by the Mythical Hoopa. The Psychic/Ghost type uses its hoops to create an opening through time and space, allowing other Pokémon to travel through which we have seen from GO Fest 2021.
Learn Hoopa’s Secrets During the Season!
You’ll be able to access parts of this Season’s Special Research story when certain events begin. The Special Research story will focus on discovering more about Hoopa and the strange occurrences happening throughout the Season, so stay tuned to follow along with the story.
If you complete this Season’s Special Research story, you’ll gain access to a special event at the end of the Season that might have something to do with Hoopa! As of now, it is left a secret as to what unlocked tasks will become available after September 5. More information will be known soon about these tasks.
Note: Hoopa can’t be transferred to Pokémon HOME for now. For Trainers unable to play during this Season, Confined Hoopa will be available again in the future.

The Season of Mischief begins! Hoopa has been playing pranks on the team leaders and Professor Willow—it’s taken his glasses?!— and it’s up to us to learn more about the Mischief Pokémon. Why is it so mischievous? What else does it have in store for us this Season?
Poor Professor Willow has had his glasses taken by the Mythical Hoopa! It’s up to us to help him retrieve it back. “What else does it have in store for us this Season?” makes us believe that Hoopa may play a bigger part than we think. It will be interesting to see what’s in store for us during this Season of Mischief.

Complete the seasonal Special Research tasks for an opportunity to catch Hoopa!On Sunday, September 5, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time, various strange phenomena will be happening all around the world —maybe this has something to do with Hoopa?!
The following types of Pokémon will be appearing in the wild and attracted to Incense at the listed local times.
- 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.: Psychic type Pokémon
- 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.: Ghost type Pokémon and Dark type Pokémon
- 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.: Psychic type Pokémon
- 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.: Ghost type Pokémon and Dark type Pokémon
- 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.: Psychic type Pokémon
- 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.: Ghost type Pokémon and Dark type Pokémon

This day event will grant us access to be able to catch certain Psychic and Ghost-type Pokémon to celebrate the release of Hoopa and a way to honour its dual typing to stick with the theme.
Other Event Bonuses
There will be a Collection Challenge available featuring Pokémon attracted to Incense during the event hours. The Collection Challenge will reward Hoopa Candy and the Poké Ball Lift avatar pose!
- You’ll earn twice the Candy for transferring Pokémon.
- A free bundle containing an Incense will be available in the shop.
Complete event-exclusive Field Research tasks to earn Rare Candies and a variety of Poké Ball types!
As we can see from this portion, we will be granted with Hoopa Candy from the Collection Challenge which will aid in powering up your Hoopa. With a whopping max CP of 3797, Hoopa might actually be a viable Psychic and Ghost-type Pokémon to use. Along with receiving Hoopa Candy, players will unlock the Poké Ball Lift avatar pose which will be a brand new pose for your avatar.
Other Bonuses include double the amount of candy received when transferring Pokémon which benefits everyone and a free bundle in the item shop which contains an Incense to help catch rare Psychic and Ghost-type ‘mons.
What Else is Happening During the Season of Mischief?
Mischief abound! Throughout the Season, you can look forward to mischief! What strange occurrences will be happening in Pokémon GO? You’ll have to wait and see!

- As the seasons change, different Pokémon will be appearing in different areas across the world!
Different Pokémon will be appearing in different biomes:
- Cities: Shuppet, Trubbish, Gothita, and more
- Forests: Teddiursa, Shelmet, Karrablast, and more
- Mountains: Geodude, Rhyhorn, Slugma, and more
- Bodies of water: Krabby, Horsea, Mantine and more
And of course, different Hemispheres feature different spawns:
- Northern hemisphere: Jigglypuff, Slowpoke, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Bidoof, Autumn Form Deerling, and more.
- Southern hemisphere: Clefairy, Roselia, Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott, Tympole, Spring Form Deerling, and more.
During the Season of Mischief, certain Pokémon will be spawning in different locations around the world which we can see above. These Pokémon will stick around and be more common for the remainder of the in-game season.
Different Pokémon Will be Hatching From Eggs!
The following Pokémon will be hatching from Eggs this Season:
- Nidoran (Female), Nidoran (Male), Barboach, Drifloon, and more will be hatching from 2 km Eggs.
- Seel, Pineco, Sableye, Chingling, and more will be hatching from 5 km Eggs.
- Audino, Mienfoo, and more will be hatching from 10 km Eggs.
- Shieldon, Cranidos, female Frillish, and more will be hatching from 5 km Eggs earned from Adventure Sync rewards.
- Riolu, Deino, Noibat, and more will be hatching from 10 km Eggs earned from Adventure Sync rewards.
PvP players will be pleased to see that Pokémon such as Sableye, Shieldon and Frillish will now be available to hatch from eggs since XL candy can be a struggle to obtain.
Mega Evolution bonuses!
During each month of the Season of Mischief, a different Pokémon will receive a CP boost when Mega Evolved.
• September: Mega Slowbro
• October: Mega Gengar
• November: Mega Houndoom
Ditto Transformations
There seems to be a change in the species of Pokemon that Ditto is transforming into in the wild. There is now a chance that the following Pokémon will instead be a Ditto when caught!
These Pokémon Ditto can now transform into Ditto. This is an important factor to keep an eye out for since, for the first time ever outside of Special Research, you might encounter a Shiny Ditto. You might also find a Shiny Ditto in the wild during and after this period.
