Legendary Raid Preparation: Generation I

Posted in

„This summer will be legendary!“ is what Niantic’s Global Marketing Lead Archit Bhargava said just a couple of weeks ago. (link) With the introduction of  Raids introduced, together with the leaked Legendary Egg Sprite and a Lugia Badge in 0.67.1, Legendary Pokémon are coming sooner than we thought.

From what we’ve seen so far, most high tier raids are not easy if you are alone or if you don’t have good Pokemon to counter the Raid boss. With that in mind, it’s important to prepare and stock up on Legendary counters as soon as possible.ARTICUNO

Articuno is Ice and Flying type Pokemon, so the best thing we can use is a Rock type attacks that will be double effective against Articuno.

Golem (Rock Throw / Stone Edge)
He will deal the most damage, but he will also take more damage from Ice type attacks.

Flareon (Fire Spin / Overheat)
He will deal Super Effective damage and will resist Ice type attacks.

Tyranitar (Bite / Stone Edge)
Strongest Pokemon that has Stone Edge, sadly, has now Rock type quick attacks.

ZAPDOS

Zapdos is Electric and Flying type Pokemon, he is only vulnerable to Rock and Ice type attacks.

Piloswine (Ice Shard or Powder Snow / Avalanche)
He will deal Super Effective damage, and will also resist Electric type attacks.

Golem (Rock Throw / Stone Edge)
He will deal Super Effective damage, and will also resist Electric type attacks.

Tyranitar (Bite / Stone Edge)
Will deal Super Effective damage only with his Charge Move, but is strong attacker nevertheless.

MOLTRES

Moltres is Fire and Flying type Pokemon, so the best thing again is to use a Rock type attacks that will be double super effective against Moltres.

Golem (Rock Throw / Stone Edge)
He will deal Double Super Effective damage, and will also resist Fire type attacks.

Omastar (Rock Throw / Rock Slide)
If you are lucky enough to have that legacy moveset, your time is coming.

Tyranitar (Bite / Stone Edge)
Will deal double Super Effective damage only with his Charge Move, and will also resist Fire type attacks.

Honorable mention – Vaporeon (Water Gun / Hydro Pump)
You won’t do a lot of damage, but you will be super effective and will take less damage. But don’t count on him to much.

MEWTWO and MEW

They are both Psychic type Pokemon so they take more damage from Bug, Dark and Ghost type attacks.

Tyranitar (Bite / Crunch)
Is a strong attacker with Dark type moves that will be super effective. (it’s possible that Mewtwo can have Focus Blast (Fighting type move) that would just destroy Tyranitar)

Gengar (Shadow Claw / Shadow Ball)
Shadow Claw is a Legacy moveset, but Sucker Punch or Hex will do as well. Problem with him is that he takes more damage from Psychic type attacks and has really low HP. But he will do the most DPS to Mewtwo and Mew.

Houndoom (Snarl / Foul Play)
He will receive more damage from Focus Blast (if any of them have it) but will receive less damage from Psychic type attacks.

Mew is a problem because we might be able to have all sorts of attacks, like Solar Beam, Fire Blast, Focus Blast, Earthquake, etc. So you don’t know what to use against him.
