Ninetales raid boss guide: can it be solo raided?

Posted in

Ninetales is a Tier 4 Raid Boss in Pokemon GO, with Boss CP of 23581 and Max Capture CP of 1233 (Level 20, perfect IV score). This page details best Ninetales Raid counters and how to fight this monster effectively.

Be aware that Ninetales is not soloable (or at least hasn’t been soloed yet) and it is required to have at least 2 Trainers in order to take it down. Ninetales is a fire type, with weakness to waterground and rock moves.

Ninetales Raid Counters

Legendary Counters
Ninetales
Mewtwo Confusion psychic Shadow Ball ghost
Omastar Rock Throw rock Hydro Pump water
Vaporeon Water Gun water Hydro Pump water
Golem Rock Throw rock Stone Edge rock
Tyranitar Bite dark Stone Edge rock
Dragonite Dragon Tail dragon Outrage dragon
Weakness ground rock water

Ninetales has proven to be either extremely difficult or impossible to solo. With that in mind, be respectful of this angry fox, as Ninetales can counter its counters in a number of occasions.

The Ninetales counters list resolves around Rock and Water attackers, but all of them crumble if Ninetales has Solar Beam as charged move. In that case, resort to Dragonite, Mewtwo and dodge, dodge like there is no tomorrow.

According to a number of online simulators, Ninetales should be soloable with a team of perfect Golems and/or Mewtwos, but it’s yet to be proven.

Ninetales has access to fire, dark and grass type moves:

  • Fire Spin fire (quick)
  • Feint Attack dark (quick)
  • Overheat fire (charged, one bar)
  • Heat Wave fire (charged, one bar)
  • Solar Beam grass (charged, one bar)

Additional Ninetales Counters

As we already explained above, Ninetales counter are centered around using type advantage over Ninetails. With 2+ Trainers, this fight becomes a lot easier than it is for one player, so you can experiment with various lower tier Pokemon.

We can recommend a few additional counters for the lazy ones:

  • Feraligatr with WG/HP
  • Kingdra with WG/HP
  • Kingler with Bubble/WPulse
  • Rhydon with MS/SE
  • Gyarados with Hydro PUmp
