Pokémon GO Mawile is a “Deceiver Pokémon”, looks fierce but it can’t really bite. Mawile is also available as a Shiny and as a Tier 2 Raid boss. It is one of the few Pokémon with the interesting dual type: steel fairy.
Unfortunately, Mawile has a low max CP of 1484 and doesn’t have a role outside of being a Pokedex filler and a Tier 2 Raid boss. You can farm Mawile raids in order to get a Shiny, but that’s probably the only reason why you would do it. Mawile takes increased damage only from fire and ground attacks.
Mawile in the Pokémon GO meta
Mawile is not a strong Gen III Pokemon. With low CP, easily countered typing and access to a plethora of weird moves, Mawile is not something you will actively pursue. Luckily, Mawile has a mega evolution down the line.
Perhaps then, like in other Pokémon games, Mawile will receive a significant increase to it’s Attack and Defense stats, raising its Combat Power and in turn making her more useful than it is now.
Until Mega Evolutions become a thing in Pokemon GO, Mawile is the Gen III equivalent of Arbok.
Mawile best moves and movesets in Pokémon GO
Best moveset: Astonish / Play Rough
Mawile’s movesets are strongly skewed towards Play Rough, which is arguably the best charge move it can have. Surprisingly, simulations show that Astonish performs A LOT better than Bite, despite Bite having the added Benefit of STAB.
We would suggest that you keep only Mawile’s that are either shiny, or perfect IV, or already have Play Rough as a charged move.
Pokémon GO Mawile has access to the following moves:
- Bite dark
- Astonish ghost
- Play Rough fairy
- Iron Head steel
- Vice Grip normal
Shiny Mawile in Pokemon GO
A normal Mawile has a light yellow body and black arms and feet. It has a large black jaw-like structure from its head that extends to its back, and has an oval, light yellow spot.
A shiny Mawile also has a light yellow body and purple colored arms and feet. It has a large purple jaw-like structure from its head that extends to its back, and has an oval, light yellow spot.
In the anime
Mawile made its television debut on the 379th episode of the Pokémon series (Advanced Generation: Episode 105) titled, “Once in a Mawile”.
