Piplup

Piplup is a Water type Pokémon that originates from the Sinnoh Region. It is the Generation 4 Water starter that evolves in Prinplup, and later evolves into Empoleon, a interesting and unique Water and Steel type.

We expect that, like all starters prior, it will take 25 candies to evolve Piplup to Prinplup, and then 100 thereafter to evolve to Empoleon.

You can find detailed stats on Piplup on our database: Piplup DB Entry.

The whole Piplup line has stats that slightly favor Attack over Defense and Stamina:

  • Max CP: 947
  • Attack: 112
  • Defense: 103
  • Stamina: 106

Family Overview

No evolutionary items are required to evolve a Piplup, and the evolutionary line is fairly straightforward:

Shiny Piplup

Piplup has a pretty noticeable difference in its regular form versus its shiny, with almost all parts getting a slight tint of green added to the fur, beaks, and claws.

Piplup Fun Facts and Pokédex Entries

  • Its name is a combination of pip, the baby stage of a birds right before they hatch, and then plup, the onomatopoeia of something hitting water, like a sinking pebble or rock.
  • Platnium Entry: “A poor walker, it often falls down. However, its strong pride makes it puff up its chest without a care.”
  • Heartgold and Soulsilver Entry: “It doesn’t like to be taken care of. It’s difficult to bond with since it won’t listen to its Trainer.”
