Gigantamax Lapras is a Tier 6 Max Battle in Pokémon GO. It will cost 800 Max Particles to participate in this Max Battle, which will only be consumed if you defeat Gigantamax Lapras successfully. Gigantamax Lapras can be shiny from Max Battles.

Being a Water and Ice type, it is weak to Electric Fighting Grass, and Rock moves. There are a variety of counters available for Gigantamax Lapras depending on their moveset!

We highly recommend making sure you are well prepared with levelled up counters with boosted Max Moves where possible. Talk to your battle squad and be prepared to use not only your attacking moves, but also Max Guard and Max Spirit too. Communication is absolutely key here, be sure to have a person in each set of 4 using Max Guard to draw the attacks onto themselves while others attack and heal.

You will need between 10 and 40 players to take down Gigantamax Lapras, so preparation and top tier counters, are absolutely key! How many trainers it will type will depend entirely on your preparation. Levelled up Max Moves, and team tactics are essential, with one trainer in each set of 4 acting as a tank using Max Guard, while others use their attacks and Max Spirit.

Max Battle Information

Max Battles can be participated in in-person only, at Power Spots, which are easily identified on the map by the purple marking and large ‘X’ above them.

You can challenge Max Battles with up to 4 people, including yourself. Each person can bring up to 3 Dynamax Pokémon in their team, but participation is possible with just one Dynamax Pokémon.

Up to 40 Trainers, split into groups of four or fewer, can band together to increase their chance of success. Each Trainer must use Max Particles to engage in battle—the more powerful the Power Spot Boss, the more Max Particles needed. But don’t worry—Max Particles are only used up once you successfully take down the boss, so keep pushing towards victory.

Only Dynamax Pokémon can participate in this Max Battle. Existing Pokemon are not eligible.

Max Battles are turn based, differing from both raiding and GO Battle League. More strategy will need to be implemented for harder Max Bosses.

In a Max Battle, tap the screen to use Fast Attacks, and build up energy to use Charged Attacks as usual. Attacking will also fill up the Max Meter at the top of the screen.

When three lines appear above a Pokemon’s head, it means it is being targeted by the Max Battle Boss. You can avoid this by swiping to Dynamax, you need to fill up the Max Meter at the top of the screen to its maximum, and the meter fills up by swiping towards an attack or the Max Charge (purple button) that appears from time to time.

In battle you will see a Max Meter. When it reaches its maximum, your Pokémon will automatically Dynamax your Pokémon. Keep an eye on the meter! Once it’s full, your Pokémon will Dynamax for 3 turns!

Once Dynamaxed you will be given the option to use any of your unlocked Max Moves, if battling harder difficulty bosses as a group, plan your use of your attack, Shield and Spirit moves together.

If you spot energy icons on the battlefield, swipe to collect them and fill up your meter even faster.

You can Dynamax more than once in a Max Battle, and will automatically Dynamax once your Max Meter refills.

If all of your Pokémon faint while battling a three-star or higher Power Spot Boss, you can still help your allies by cheering for your them so that their meters fill faster.

With a variety of Ice and Water type moves, Lapras can be tricky to counter. It can hit your Grass types incredibly hard, so if it may be worth sticking to Pokémon that are not weak to any of it’s movesets.

The best attackers to fight Lapras that are not weak to any of its moves, are strong Fighting or Electric type attackers such as G-Max and D-Max Toxtricity, and D-Max Machamp.
