Deino Community Day Classic: Your Go-To PvE Guide

Greetings, Trainers! We’re back with another PvE meta guide, and this time, it’s a big one. Deino Community Day Classic is happening 16th May 2-5pm local time, and it is not an event you’ll want to miss. The original Deino Community Day took place in June 2022, so it’s been quite a while. Since then, plenty of new Trainers have joined the game, making this a great opportunity to pick up a strong addition to their PvE roster. And honestly, even veteran Trainers shouldn’t be too quick to skip this one. So, where does Hydreigon stand in today’s meta, and just how much does its Community Day move help it? Let’s dive in.

*Legacy Move

Hydreigon is a Gen V Pseudo-Legendary Pokémon with a Dark Dragon typing. This unique combination gives Hydreigon five weaknesses, including a double weakness to Fairy, while also granting it seven resistances, including a double resistance to Psychic moves.

Hydreigon in Pokémon GO PvE

Hydreigon’s raw stats immediately suggest a hard-hitting raid attacker, but when it first made its debut in Pokémon GO, it still wasn’t a truly worthwhile PvE investment. The reason at the time was its lackluster move pool. What really pushed it into the PvE meta was its Community Day move: Brutal Swing. Let’s compared Hydreigon’s performance with Top Dark Attackers using our DPS Comparer Tool:

It is evident from the 2 point difference in DPS that Brutal Swing really lifts Hydreigon’s performance. Regular Hydreigon puts up a strong performance, while its Shadow variant breaks into the Top 3. There is one catch though: Dark type attackers compete with Ghost attackers in raid utility as both are super-effective against Psychic and Ghost types. Hence, Hydreigon is competing not only with other Dark attackers, but with Ghost attackers as well. All is not lost though, Hydreigon and other Dark type attackers get the added advantage of resisting Psychic and Ghost type attacks. So, while some Ghost attackers may out-DPS Hydreigon in raid battles, they may not be able to stay in the battle as long as Hydreigon will, especially against Psychic type raid bosses.

Here is MeteorAsh15 with Shadow Hydreigon’s Raid Meta Analysis, comparing its performance with other Dark and Ghost Attackers.

As a Dragon raid attacker, Hydreigon sadly isn’t the best. Both regular and Shadow variants are outclassed by several Better Dragon Attackers.

As strong as Hydreigon is in Dark type duties, it is much less impressive as a Dragon attacker. Its Dragon moveset does not let it compete at the same level, so it is usually better to treat Hydreigon as a dedicated Dark attacker rather than trying to force double duty out of it.

Why Deino Community Day Classic Matters!

This Community Day Classic matters for one big reason: Hydreigon is only a strong Dark raid attacker in Pokémon GO when it has access to Brutal Swing. Without that move, its value drops off significantly, and it no longer stands out as a reliable option for PvE. For many trainers, that alone makes this event worth paying attention to. It is not just about the move, either. Community Day Classic also gives trainers the chance to stock up on Deino Candy and XL Candy, both of which are essential if you actually want to power up Hydreigon and use it in raids. Getting the right move is one thing, but having enough resources to build the Pokémon properly is just as important, and this event helps with both.

For newer players, that accessibility is a huge deal. Hydreigon becomes much easier to build compared to several other top Dark attackers, many of which are harder to obtain, harder to power up, or tied to more limited availability. As a result, this event is a great opportunity for newer trainers to add a genuinely useful attacker to their lineup without needing premium resources. At the same time, veteran players also have plenty of reasons to care. Most importantly, this event can let them evolve a Shadow Hydreigon with Brutal Swing without spending an Elite Charged TM, which is a major benefit given how valuable those items are. On top of that, even experienced raiders may appreciate the chance to build an extra Hydreigon for their PvE roster, especially if they are still short on other strong Dark attackers or simply want more depth for future raid teams.

Parting Words

Deino Community Day Classic is one of those events that is easy to recommend. It is less about nostalgia and more about practical value. Hydreigon still has an important role in PvE, but only when it has access to Brutal Swing. That alone makes this event highly relevant for anyone who cares about building efficient raid teams. It is also the kind of event that works for every type of Trainer. Newer players get access to a strong and accessible Dark attacker, while veteran players get a valuable chance to build or improve a Shadow Hydreigon without spending premium resources. Not every event has this kind of long-term usefulness, but this one definitely does.

Trainers, let us know: Which Generation V Pokémon is your favorite? (Volcarona anyone?). Is Iris the better Unova Champion or Alder? And as always, stay safe, and a happy Community Day!
