Our second July Max Monday has introduced Dynamax Hydreigon to our rosters so let’s take a look at whether our new pseudo legendary dark dragon is worth grinding for! Deino is a tier 3 max battle and costs 400 max particles to participate, see our guide for this here.

Hydreigon is currently only available as a Dynamax, so is obviously outclassed by it’s Gigantamax counterparts. As a Dark attacker it is second only to Gigantamax Grimmsnarl, so if you haven’t managed to build one yet Hydreigon is a much cheaper and more accessible option. It’s high attack of 256 will keep it as a great budget dark attacker for some time. It is a similar story for Hydreigon’s other type, Dragon, with it only being surpassed in this type by Eternatus and Latios. These are expensive and tricky to power up so once again, Hydreigon proves to be an excellent budget option.
Hydreigon has the 0.5 second moves Bite and Dragon Breath available which does make it a viable defender. Unfortunately Hydreigon is not blessed with an amazing Defence or HP stat however it does boast a decent range of resistances –
and
. Unfortunately these are all covered by much better defender Pokémon such as Registeel, Latias and Zamazenta and it will not really see much use as a defender.
As mentioned above Hydreigon does not boast a great HP stat which is key for healers in max battles. If you didn’t already know, Blissey is the undisputed queen of healing and Hydreigon is certainly not a threat to that crown!!
We would highly recommend spending time farming this easy to build and meta relevant Pokémon. Deino has been accessible enough that most people should be able to power a Hydreigon up to quite a high level. It serves as a fantastic option as a dark and dragon type attacker and won’t let you down! We gotta catch ’em all! Happy hunting everyone!
