Flamigo in Pokémon GO Meta: Is It Worth the Grind?

Welcome Trainers! We are now in the Valentine Month and the Pink colour theme will soon be upon us! Staying true to the colour theme, with the start of Carnival of Flamigo Event, we have debut of a new Pokémon: Synchronize Pokémon Flamigo. So does this pink Flami(n)go make any impact in the meta, let’s find out!

Flamigo: Stats, Profile and Typing

Flamigo, introduced in Gen 9 with the release of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, is one of the very few Pokémon with Flying as primary type. It is also a Fighting type, with the dual typing providing Flamigo with 5 different resistances, which also includes double resistance to both Ground and Bug. At the same time, Flamigo also has five different weaknesses. Flamigo is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

Flamigo in Pokémon GO PvE

Raid icon Raids

Flamigo as a Flying raid attacker has access to some solid Flying moves in Wing Attack and Brave Bird. However, what Flamigo does not have is stats to back up its moveset. Using our DPS Comparer Tool:

As we can see, Flamigo’s performance as a Flying raid attacker is no-where close to Top Flying Raid Attackers currently in the game. It is not even a B-Tier Flying raid attacker, not even breaking into the top 30 list. Flamigo’s performance is similar as a Fighting raid attacker as well. Here is a comparison of Flamigo with Top Fighting Raid Attackers:

Flamigo’s DPS both as a Flying and as a Fighting raid attacker is half the DPS of respective top ranked Pokémon. Unfortunately, that in itself tells a story of Flamigo’s dismal raid performance.

Flamigo in Pokémon GO PvP

Ideal Moveset: Double Kick Fighting type icon + Upper Hand Fighting type icon & Brave Bird Flying type icon

In PvP, Flamigo is far more interesting than it was in PvE. Yes, Flamigo’s bulk is not excellent, but its moveset really packs a punch with a lot of spice. Just imagine: A bird knocking out a Bastiodon! Now that does bring back those Staraptor vibes!

Great League icon Great League

In Great League, Flamigo comes across as a heavy attacker with very less bulk. However, with Upper Hand providing a decent chance to debuff opponent’s defense and Flamigo’s own attack heaviness along with a nuke in Brave Bird, it can still knockout some solid meta Pokémon. Flamigo does pickup wins against meta threats like Cradily, Bastiodon, Gastrodon and Furret. But there are a lot more losses including the likes of Clodsire, Corviknight, Azumarill and Ludicolo. Flamigo does have the potential to be an anti-meta/spice pick and possibly even be meta in some theme cups.

Flamigo’s ideal IV spread for Great League is: 0/15/11, 1500CP, Level 20.5.

Ultra League icon Ultra League

Scaling up to Ultra league, Flamigo gains some traction, thanks to improved bulk. The performance improves with higher wins than what it was in the Great League. However, Flamigo still remains an outlier to the meta, with less wins like Talonflame, Cradily, Cobalion and Virizion and more losses like Giratina (Altered), Florges, Walrein and Regidrago.

Flamigo’s ideal IV spread for Ultra League is: 0/15/13, 2500CP, Level 38.

Master League icon Master League

With a max CP of just 3117, Flamigo doesn’t have the stats to compete in Master League. Flamigo can flex in other leagues, but it is out of depth in Master League.

Is Flamigo Worth Building?

Well, to put it bluntly, Maybe! But, is it worth grinding—Yes! Why? Because, you will get additional 500 stardust for catching Flamigo as an event bonus. And who doesn’t like to watch or catch a pink Flami(n)go. Flamigo’s PvE performance may not be up to the mark but there is a lot of PvP fun potential to it. And as I have always believed, get a good IV one and hoard! The future is never known! (Sadly, Flamigo doesn’t have a signature move, although it does have a signature ability: Costar. Unfortunately, there is no corresponding mechanic to abilities in Pokémon GO.)

Parting Words

That is it Trainers! Another analysis done. Flamigo, not your raid go-to, but brings in PvP spice—Double Kick into Upper Hand/Brave Bird! Lead with energy or a shield on it late-game, and boom—surprise W. Otherwise, pure spice pick. Fun times, no pressure. After all, what is an Interlude GBL season for!

Let us know Trainers! Have you played Pokémon Scarlet & Violet? If yes, was Flamigo in your team? Is Flamigo anyone’s favourite Pokémon of all time?

And as always, Stay Safe!
