Applin Debuts during the Sweet Discoveries event

Applin makes its Pokémon GO debut during the Sweet Discoveries event! The event runs from Thursday, April 24, to Tuesday, April 29, 2025, during which you can evolve Applin into Flapple or Appletun using special items and Candy.

This information was shared in a marketing e-mail sent out today.

Debuting Pokémon

Applin is a Dragon and Grass type Pokémon that needs 400 Candy to evolve into Flapple, or 400 Candy to evolve into Appletun. A sweet and sour split evolution! 🍎

This is a huge amount of Candy, so we are quite curious to see what the developers have in store for us, and what are these items that the announcement mentions.

Appletun’s and Flapple’s Pokédex maybe sheds a bit of information on how the evolution mechanism could function:

Pokémon Pokédex description
Artwork of Appletun from Pokémon GO Appletun “Eating a sweet apple caused its evolution. A nectarous scent wafts from its body, luring in the bug Pokémon it preys on.”
Artwork of Flapple from Pokémon GO Flapple   “It ate a sour apple, and that induced its evolution. In its cheeks, it stores an acid capable of causing chemical burns.”

In addition to this email, data miners have reported that sprites for Applin, Flapple, and Appletun have been added to the game:

Statwise, Flapple and Appletun are quite the opposite, with Flapple leaning heavily into attack, and Appeltun into stamina. On the move front, they are quite similar, with the obvious difference being :
