Recently Niantic announced changes were coming to the Community Ambassador Program, and one of those changes appears to now be live. Starting on 5th November, it appears that communities with official Community Ambassadors will received timed research, instead of codes for items when they check in.
Thank you to Tackleman for sharing this information on Reddit!
This Timed Research will last for 8 hours, and has four different branching paths to choose from:
- Battle (Battling Team GO Rocket)
- Catch (Catching Pokémon)
- Team Up (Teaming up with fellow trainers)
- Raid
Information is still coming in on all of the rewards, but it has been noted that the raid path gives two additional orange Battle Passes on the day.
Once you have chosen your path, you can also receive special Community Ambassador Field Research tasks when spinning PokéStops!
These field research tasks have been reported a fair distance from your Community check-in, up to several km away.
Some of the currently reported Community Ambassador Field Research tasks include:
- Add a new friend
- Battle another nearby trainer by scanning their code. (It has been reported that battling them from your friend list also counts)
- Hatch an egg
- Take a snapshot of your Buddy
Interestingly, it appears that while the IV floor of these Pokémon is the usual 10-10-10, the level of them is not set at level 15, and seems to be random. This is a first for field research task encounters. This may be unintentional, and may later be fixed.
Some costume Pokémon will appear as Community Ambassador Field Research task encounter rewards, but so far seem to be very rare!
Some of the reported Pokémon encounters are as follows:
