On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, a brand new journey is coming in Pokémon GO, the adventure to level 80! Get ready for a brand new leveling experience with new rewards, new cosmetics, the new Daily Adventure Egg, and more.
Pokémon GO has clarified that the leveling update will go live at some point in the PDT timezone (San Francisco time). The update is now rolling out globally, as a slow gradual release. While you wait, check out the Level 70 to 80 requirements in our guide, which will be update to a full leveling guide soon after the update goes live.
The Trainer level cap will increase from level 50 to level 80.* The overall leveling system will be fully rebalanced to allow Trainers to level up and earn rewards more frequently.
A host of new rewards have been added to level-up progression, including increased storage capacity for Pokémon, Items, Gifts, and Postcards. This also includes new avatar items, starting at level 25!
*The level cap increase only affects Trainer level and not Pokémon levels.
When the leveling update goes live, all the XP you’ve earned so far will be applied to the rebalanced leveling curve to determine your new Trainer level.
- No players will drop in level.
- The XP needed for your next level may change.
- Trainers at level 23 or higher will gain at least one level.
- Tasks for Level-Up Research for levels 41 to 50 will be removed.
- New Level-Up Research tasks will be added for levels 71 to 80. These will be brand new Level-Up Research tasks, not the previous level 42-50 Research tasks.
- Trainers will retroactively receive the new avatar and storage-related rewards for all previous levels.
Starting at level 15, Trainers will be able to get a free Daily Adventure Egg to hatch a Pokémon and earn 10,000 XP.
- When a Trainer logs in to Pokémon GO for the first time on a new day, the Daily Adventure Egg will automatically be placed into its own Incubator.*
- Trainers can only hold and incubate one Daily Adventure Egg at a time.
- The Daily Adventure Egg will hatch after exploring a distance of 1 km.**
- The Daily Adventure Egg will not count towards the Trainer’s current Egg storage.
- The new Daily Adventure Egg will include First Partner Pokémon from Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue through Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet.
* The Incubator for the Daily Adventure Egg can only be used with the Daily Adventure Egg.
** Be sure to have Adventure Sync activated to record your distance walked even when the Pokémon GO app isn’t open!

Trainers will now be able to earn new rewards from leveling up that increase their storage of Pokémon, Items, Gifts and Postcards.
Rewarded storage from leveling can enable Trainers to go above existing storage capacity limits! The increased storage will be given to trainers for free, and it will not need to be purchased.

Trainers at level 70 and higher will have an increased chance of becoming Lucky Friends with Trainers that they’ve achieved a Friendship level of Best Friends with.
With the new level cap, the amount of XP that Trainers need to earn to reach various levels has been updated. Here are the XP requirements for key milestone levels:
| Level | XP Requirement |
| Level 10 | 48,000 XP |
| Level 20 | 258,000 XP |
| Level 30 | 1,083,000 XP |
| Level 40 | 3,953,000 XP |
| Level 50 | 12,753,000 XP |

| Level 70 | 85,853,000 XP |
| Level 80 | 203,353,000 XP |
To reach level 71 to 80, Trainers will need both to earn a certain amount of XP and complete new Level-Up Research tasks at each level.
The Tasks for Level-Up Research for levels 41 to 50 will be removed. Level-Up Research tasks will only be associated with levels 71 to 80.
- The avatar items earned by reaching levels 40 through 50 before this leveling update won’t be available from leveling up after October 15, 2025.
- Trainers will no longer be able to earn the Level 50 Jacket.
- Trainers will keep any items, poses, or other level-up rewards they’ve already earned, including the Level 50 Jacket.
- Trainers will still start earning Candy XL at Trainer level 31.
- Trainers will still need to be Level 40 to be able to power their Pokémon up to Level 40.
- Previously, upon reaching Trainer level 50, Trainers would achieve an encounter with Mewtwo. This Mewtwo encounter will now be achieved at Trainer level 80. Trainers who previously achieved this Mewtwo encounter at Level 50, will only receive additional candy at Level 80, and not another Mewtwo encounter.
