Pokémon World Championships 2026 is still on going at the moment of writing this article, but the Pokémon GO World Champion has been decided! In a super exciting best-of-five type of battle between MEweedle and GGS489HIROMARU, GGS489HIROMARU has emerged victorious! Congratulations to GGS489HIROMARU for winning the crown at the 2026 Pokémon World Championships!
The entire matchup is gut-wrenching and long, especially for the players involved, but us as the audience as well. One of the most exciting and closest fights we have ever seen. Congratulations to both players, this was an incredible tournament, and we just hope that Scopely invests much more in GO Battle League, as the current implementation definitely needs improvements.
It was very evident that both Trainers suffered a lot of stress and tiredness throughout the match, with both of them looking completely lost at times. The major problem is the lengthy match reviews, which kill momentum and make the players (and the audience) suffer through unnecessary anxiety.
The fact that the deciding match had to be replayed at a World Championships level event speaks volumes at the state of the GBL system and the predictability/readability of the system. This needs to improve, not just for the professional scene, but for the entire Pokémon GO community.
