Trainers, we have an exciting data mining discovery to share! Icons for Mega Pokémon and mega badges have been pushed to the game assets, and now are slowly being downloaded in the background.
Niantic has been fairly silent about Pokemon GO’s Mega evolution feature until today, when a peculiar tweet was shared on their official Pokémon GO Twitter account. In the meantime, data miners have discovered new icons that shed additional light on the upcoming feature. Be sure to read our previous report on the data mined code on Mega Pokémon and Mega Raids.
🚨⚠️ Disclaimer ⚠️🚨
Please be aware data miners have publicly reported everything in this article (PokeMiners #1 and #2). Information shared through these channels is not affiliated nor approved by Niantic, and is always subject to change. Do not take it for granted, features change and get scrapped all the time. It is very important that you are aware that these things CAN and WILL CHANGE.
Additionally, this article contains my thoughts and opinions in regards to the code that was shared online – all of these should be treated as conjecture, not as hard statements. If you’re OK with that, feel free to read further. Potential spoilers ahead.
Mega Pokémon icons
Six mega Pokémon icons were added in this silent release. Stats are not yet available and the mega evolution and damage mechanics are not completely known.
Icons for two new badges have been pushed as well, one for Unique Mega evolutions performed and one for Total Mega Pokémon (we’re assuming that this is the case).
There’s still a lot that’s unknown about Mega Pokémon, but we’re expecting Niantic to share more information in the near future. Stay tuned for updates!
