Yesterday a found footage style movie teaser was shared by the Pokémon Company, with many fans speculating that the full trailer would share a new 
type Mega Pokémon, imagine our surprise when instead it revealed Mega Victreebel! ‘The Cast of the Sweet Scent Incident’ was shown in full during a livestream today, showcasing this new and rather unexpected Mega.
Mega Victreebel will be a

type Mega Pokémon with a rather unusual look to it! The pokemon Company describe it as follows:
“The Mega Evolution of the Flycatcher Pokémon bounces around with a large amount of acid stored within it—acid that can not only melt through steel but also gives off a dizzyingly sweet scent.”
Fan reaction has been hilariously mixed so far, with some Pokémon trainers falling in love with the comical design and almost lip filler-esque lips, whilst others have deemed it ridiculous (without realised that is what makes it great!)

The original design of Victreebel was based upon the carnivorous Pitcher Plant, which have a deep digestive system filled with liquid designed to consume their prey. The are also known as pitfall traps. There are a variety of pitcher plants that could have inspired this more bulbous design, including the Nepenthes villosa or villose pitcher-plant, or even the Nepenthes attenboroughii (which is named after David Attenborough!), but most close with a large leaf like regular Victreebel, not vines like Mega Victreebel. It almost resembles an old fashioned gourd that is used for drinking out of, as they often have rope wrapped around the neck for easy of carrying.
