Data miners have reported that Necrozma’s movesets have been changed dramatically, and that the cost to fuse Necrozma with Solgaleo and Lunala has been reduced. We were quite happy to hear this, as Necrozma’s initial moves were underwhelming at best, and Fusion resources are expected to be pretty rare, so any reduction is welcome.
If you are not sure what is going on, and why we are talking about Necrozma, scroll to the bottom of this article to learn more – Necroma is coming for GO Fest 2024, and there have been a number of leaks indicating that a new Fusion mechanic is coming as well.
Now with that being said, let’s see what’s new!
Necrozma’s new moves

Here are all the moveset changes that Niantic pushed for Necrozma:

That’s a lot to take in, but it is a really exciting update, especially with the addition of Shadow Claw, and all of the new charge moves. Necrozma now has much more potential and utility. It will be really interesting to see how this pans out in PvP and PvE scenarios.
Future Sight is great, and it benefits from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) for additional damage. Outrage is always an interesting sight, and Dark Pulse/Iron Head could add some depth in Trainer Battles. We also love the new Steel additions!

Fusion cost changes
According to the Game Master file, in order to fuse Necrozma you need 1000 of something called FUSION_RESOURCE, 30 Necrozma and 30 Cosmog candy. We have a few comments here:
- Fusion now costs 30 Candy, down from 50 Candy. It is still not clear if it will use only Necrozma, or both Necrozma and Cosmog candy, it is described in two separate fields, so it is possible both
- The 1000 Fusion energy cost is unchanged, and it still looks like it will use different energy for Dusk Mane Solgaleo and Dawn Wings Lunala
Here’s the code behind:

Wait… Necrozma is coming?
Yes! Necrozma is coming to Pokémon GO, and Niantic has confirmed it. Necrozma first appeared in the Game Master file, the infamous “code-behind-the-game” file that contains stats and moves for every Pokémon in the game.
