Trainers, Ponyta and Galarian Ponyta Community Day has been hinted at on social media, most likely for September 14th! Niantic has shared a teaser video that clearly shows a Ponyta and a Galarian Ponyta walking through a meadow.
The first little horse that appears is a Kantonian Ponyta, accompanied by a classical tune, followed by a Galarian Ponyta with some electronic soundtrack.
It feels pretty safe to say that the next Community Day Pokémon will be Ponyta, with both forms featured!

We already know that this year’s September Community Day takes place on September 14, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 5:00 p.m! Shiny Ponyta✨ and Shiny Galarian Ponyta✨ are already available in Pokémon GO, here’s what they look like:

Kantonian Ponyta is a pure Fire type Pokémon and as such it is boosted by Sunny weather. Whereas Galarian Ponyta is a Psychic and Fairy type Pokémon, boosted by Windy or Cloudy weather. Sadly this means that there is no Mega Pokémon that boosts both forms.
Both Rapidash stand fairy low in PVP ranking, no matter what league it is, but do have their uses as spice picks in certain formats. In our Best Fire Attackers list, Shadow Rapidash appears on #49, while Galarian Rapidash is #25 as a Fairy attacker and #55 as a Psychic attacker.
Neither Kantonian Rapidash nor Galarian Rapidash have a signature move. Although Galarian Rapidash does have a signature Ability, Pastel Veil, but abilities are currently available in Pokémon GO. Could we see them get a move like Wild Charge to give them some interesting coverage against the ever present Water types in PvP? Or something unique to each form that is even spicier.
Potential Bonuses?
We expect the following bonuses as part of of the usual Community Day proceedings:
- Increased duration of Incense and Lures, thematic Field Research and Photobombs,
- Two exclusive moves for Rapidash and Galarian Rapidash, one each. Niantic has a knack for giving undervalued Pokémon super exclusive Community Day moves, potentially to boost it in Trainer Battles
- Ponyta and Galarian Ponyta in Tier 4 raids (should be soloable, but we’ll publish Tier 4 guides just as precaution)
- We are also expecting some pretty hefty Candy or Stardust bonuses for this event, as evolving and powering up two versions of the same Pokémon could be a little expensive. XP would be a great bonus for this event because Ponyta has a great catch circle for excellent throws, but as August is an XP bonus it sadly seems unlikely.
