Trainers,
we’ve received reports via Facebook that Shiny Pokémon could be coming later today. The leak was provided by a Madrid based Trainer who accurately leaked the “Water Festival” event yesterday and the Generation II release date earlier this year.
Before we share the leak, please remember that this is not confirmed. This info was messaged to us via our Facebook Inbox. We are currently trying to reach out to the original leaker to verify.
With that in mind, get ready for Shiny Magikarp!
Shiny Magikarp Leak
One of the tweets that Niantic PR was supposed to make public was the following:
Did you know that if you evolve a Shiny Pokémon like this Magikarp, the evolved Pokémon will also be Shiny?
The source did accurately provide one of the Tweets Niantic published today, however it seems Niantic has changed the scope of today’s event not to include Shiny Pokémon on launch.
Here’s the tweet in question:
Starting today, Magikarp, Squirtle, Totodile, and friends will be making a splash in the Pokémon GO Water Festival! https://t.co/PRaAiPCheo pic.twitter.com/ZxQFkvd5g3

This correlates well with everything we found in the 0.59.1 APK and it makes perfect sense in regards to the Pokémon Lore.
Shiny Gyarados is iconic to the Pokémon lore, as Red (Shiny) Gyarados is the first appearance of Shiny Pokémon in both Anime and the main series game. The Shiny Gyarados is first encountered on the Lake of Rage.
Not to mention, the Red Gyarados is encounter in Generation II games during an in game event.
Get ready Trainers, this could be it!
