Melmetal with Double Iron Bash

Double Iron Bash

Double Iron Bash is a new Steel-type move, exclusively available on Melmetal. Double Iron Bash stats are as follows:

  Gyms and Raids Trainer Battles
Damage 70 PWR 50 PWR
Energy 33 ENG 35 ENG
Duration 2.0 s

Double Iron Bash in Raids

Unfortunately for Double Iron Bash Melmetal, there are much better Steel-type attackers already present in the game. Melmetal is outranked by Metagross, Zacian, Dialga, and Mega Aggron, and comparable with Dialga in most favorable scenarios.

Double Iron Bash is a tri-bar move, which makes it a bit more consistent than some other Steel-type moves, but it still doesn’t allow Melmetal to become a top Raid attacker.

Double Iron Bash in Trainer Battles

In Trainer Battles, Double Iron Bash has the same damage output and energy requirements as Dragon Claw, Night Slash, Cross Chop, Aqua Tail, Cross Poison, and Breaking Swipe. In other words, it’s a low energy, high spam, solid damage dealing Charge Move, that allows Trainers to exert shield pressure on their opponents.

It is unlikely it will replace Rock Slide and Superpower as Melmetal’s go-to moves in Trainer Battles, but it does allow for shield spam and pressure. The only problem is that it doesn’t provide enough coverage against popular Ultra and Master League opponents.
