Dragon type Pokémon have always been formidable. Usually having great stats and a good move pool, they are a complete package for total destruction. When it comes to PvP, almost nothing gets in their way! Dragon types are one of the best types of all to use in battle. So, that begs the question. What are the Top 5 Dragon type Pokémon for each League? Analysis charts in 3… 2… 1… GO!

How Were These Pokémon Chosen?
The first decision used to pick the Top 5 was to see which Pokémon had the better move pools. Having great moves dictates how well ANY Pokémon would preform in battle. In order to check each move’s stats, I looked over our PvP Move Stats article here. The EPT (energy per turn) for quick moves matters more than DPT (damage per turn). This is because the faster you can fire off your charge moves (which all the ones chosen above were the fastest in their available move pool), the faster you can destroy your opponent’s shield. The only instance where I disregarded the EPT quick move rule is by choosing Dragon Breath (4 DPT 3 EPT) over Shadow Claw (3 DPT 3.5 EPT). The difference in DPT vs EPT was a lot larger on the damage side. On top of that, Dragon Breath is the greater move overall for neutral damage. Some may wonder, why not Dazzling Gleam Fairy on Altaria? Well it’s due to the fact that Dazzling Gleam Fairy, although a 2 bar charge move, takes forever to charge up (energy of 70 per bar)! So as a means of trying to damage your opponent quickly, Dazzling Gleam is not a good choice. Also, Mud Shot Ground on Flygon is way better than Dragon Tail. It has the fastest EPT in the game and will charge up Dragon Claw Dragon extremely fast so you can melt those shields!
Lastly, the overall stats was the second deciding factor. All Dragon types were paired up against one another at a perfect IV (15 HP, 15 ATK, 15 DEF) with the appropriate levels so they didn’t go past the limits for each League (1500, 2500, limitless). Of course, you can adjust IVs to render different level results, but going with perfect stats was a nice way to see the comparisons. Side note: Flygon was left out in the Ultra and Master League. This was a tough decision, but it mainly had to do with its move pool and statistics. By no means is it a bad Pokémon. In fact it could be used to compliment any team quite nicely. If you’d like to use Flygon, use the same move set provided from the Great League above.
