Shiny Hunting
There are a lot of shiny Pokémon available for this event, and plenty of costume shiny Pokémon, it is fashion week after all. All of the Pokémon that are rewarded for the event tasks can also be found in the wild, so the tasks are not required to find yourself a shiny Blitzle, Croagunk, or Furfrou, but they do supply extra opportunities.
The new shiny for this event is Furfrou, the star of Fashion Week. The shiny is actually very cool, featuring a black coat instead of the normal white coat. For the shiny collectors, there are also 9 forms (styles) of Furfrou, which means you will need 10 shiny Furfrou for a living dex of all forms. Unfortunately, the shiny chances of Furfrou seem to be full odds, so you will have to be very lucky to get yourself a shiny.
New this time around, you can actually evolve Croagunk to get Toxicroak with a backwards hat. So, if you only got 1 shiny hat Croagunk last time, or none, then this is your chance to get the shiny Toxicroak with a backwards hat.
Tips for Completing Tasks
Fashion week is about taking snapshots of certain Pokémon. These Pokémon are Glameow, Blitzle, your buddy, or any wild Pokémon. For this time around, it would be beneficial to catch your reward queue Pokémon and keep your Blitzle and Glameow rewards in the queue for future snapshot tasks. Glameow and Blitzle are fairly common in the wild, but it can be annoying trying to find a spawn if you don’t have a lot of them. Keeping them in your queue will speed up your ability to complete these tasks.
Run an incense while you play to increase your chances of spawning shiny chancy Pokémon and also Pokémon you need for the tasks.
Ignore tasks that you are not focused on. For me, I immediately delete the Murkrow, Eevee, and Mareanie tasks because they are more time consuming, and I do not need the shinies for Eevee and Murkrow. If you want these shinies, then I would encourage you to complete the tasks. A lot of trainers will be focusing on finding shiny Furfrou and so your best bet is to stack those snapshot tasks.
Closing Remarks
Mareanie is a newly released Pokémon, but its’ shiny was not released. Therefore, some people may want to complete these tasks to get candy and others may skip them to move on to other tasks. Mareanie is still found in the wild, so research tasks are not the only opportunity for Mareanie candy. These event tasks are more oriented towards shiny hunters, but you can still farm candy and dust. Luckily there are no power up tasks (which can be stardust inefficient), but unfortunately, there are no evolution or special Pokémon rewards which offer more stardust.
