New moves possibly added for select Pokémon

There are a few new moves found in the game by data miners that could change the PvP meta if they go live. Niantic did not confirm this information, and there are a lot of moves that have been in the game for a long time, but no Pokémon can learn them. Nevertheless, we can try to speculate about them.

This article will mention the new moves found in-game as reported by data miners, Pokémon that might be able to learn them, and what buffs or debuffs those moves might have when we compare them to main series games.

Keep in mind we won’t be mentioning all of the Pokémon that can learn those moves in the main series games, and we’ll only mention ones that can learn them by leveling up or with breeding (not with the TM); also we will only mention the evolved forms or PvP relevant Pokémon.

Possible New Moves

  • Super Power Fighting
  • Earth Power Ground
  • Leech Life Bug
  • Drain Punch Fighting
  • Skull Bash Normal
  • Crabhammer Water
  • Lunge Bug
  • Crush Claw Normal
  • Octazooka Water
  • Mirror Shot Steel
  • Fell Stinger Bug
  • Shadow Bone Ghost
  • Razor Shell Water
  • Muddy Water Water
  • Blaze Kick Fire

Moves

Super Power Fighting
Main Series Games: Superpower inflicts damage, then lowers the user’s Attack and Defense stats by one stage each.
Speculation for Pokémon Go: This move might be dealing a ton of damage, but your Pokémon stats are both lowered by one stage after the move.
Nidoqueen Poliwrath Machamp
Pinsir Snorlax Feraligatr
Azumarill Aggron Torkoal
Crawdaunt Torterra Deoxys (attack)
Regirock Regice Registeel
Earth Power Ground
Main Series Games: Earth Power inflicts damage, and has a 10% chance of lowering the target’s Special Defense stat by one stage.
Speculation for Pokémon Go: This move might be really strong with a chance to lower your opponent’s Pokémon Defense by one stage.
Nidoqueen Nidoking Dugtrio
Dugtrio (Alola) Magcargo Corsola
Camerupt Flygon Claydol
Probopass Torterra Whiscash
Groudon Dialga Palkia
Heatran Giratina
Leech Life Bug
Main Series Games: Leech Life inflicts damage, and up to 50% of the damage dealt to the target is restored to the user as HP.
Speculation for Pokémon Go: For this kind of move we would need new mechanics in Pokémon Go. But hopefully, we’ll see something close to this soon.
Golbat Crobat Parasect
Venomoth Victreebel Kabutops
Ariados Ninjask Kricketune
Drain Punch Fighting
Main Series Games: Drain Punch inflicts damage, and up to 50% of the damage dealt to the target is restored to the user as HP.
Speculation for Pokémon Go: Very similar move to Leech Life. Less powerful and different type. But probably requires new mechanics in Pokémon Go.
Ledian Breloom Medicham
Toxicroak
Skull Bash Normal
Main Series Games: Skull Bash does nothing on the turn it is selected, other than saying that the user lowered its head. On the next turn, Skull Bash will do damage, PP will be deducted from it, and it will count as the last move used. Once Skull Bash is selected, the user won’t be able to switch out until it is disrupted or fully executed. It was the signature move of the Squirtle evolutionary line.
Speculation for Pokémon Go: Again, we don’t have anything similar yet in Pokémon Go. But this move is really powerfull and we have to wait and see what happens.
Blastoise Seaking Sharpedo
Venusaur Nidoqueen Marowak
Rhyperior Torkoal Relicanth
Abomasnow
Crabhammer Water
Main Series Games: Crabhammer deals damage and has an increased critical hit ratio. It was the signature move of Krabby and Kingler.
Speculation for Pokémon Go: We don’t have critical hits in Pokémon Go PvP yet so we can’t predict what will this move do.
Krabby Kingler Crawdaunt
Lunge Bug
Main Series Games: Lunge does damage and lowers the target’s Attack stat by one stage.
Speculation for Pokémon Go: Hopefully a new Bug-Type Move that lowers opponent’s Attack by one stage and will make some new Pokémon meta relevant.
Ariados Masquerain Volbeat
Crush Claw Normal
Main Series Games: Crush Claw inflicts damage and has a 50% chance of lowering the target’s Defense stat by one stage. It was the signature move of Zangoose.
Speculation for Pokémon Go: Probably a new move that will have a chance to lower opponent’s Defense.
Zangoose Sandslash Sandslash (Alola)
Armaldo Rhyperior Kangaskhan
Typhlosion Weavile Sceptile
Grovyle Blaziken Vigoroth
Slaking
Octazooka Water
Main Series Games: Octazooka inflicts damage and has a 50% chance to lower the target’s accuracy by one stage. It is the signature move of Octillery.
Speculation for Pokémon Go: We don’t know what to expect here as there is no accuracy in Pokémon Go yet.
Octillery Kingdra
Mirror Shot Steel
Main Series Games: Mirror Shot inflicts damage and has a 30% chance to lower the target’s accuracy by one stage.
Speculation for Pokémon Go: We don’t know what to expect here as there is no accuracy in Pokémon Go yet.
Magneton Magnezone Forretress
Wormadam
Fell Stinger Bug
Main Series Games: Fell Stinger inflicts damage; if this causes the targeted Pokémon to faint, the user’s Attack stat rises by two stages.
Speculation for Pokémon Go: This could be interesting if it’s implemented the same way it is in the main series game.
Beedrill Ariados Qwilfish
Kricketune Vespiquen Drapion
Parasect Masquerain Cacturne
Shadow Bone Ghost
Main Series Games: Shadow Bone does damage and has a 20% chance of lowering the target’s Defense stat by one stage. It is one of the signature moves of Alolan Marowak.
Speculation for Pokémon Go: Hopefully we’ll soon have Alolan Marowak with a great new move being even more relevant in Great League PvP.
Marowak (Alola)
Razor Shell Water
Main Series Games: Razor Shell inflicts damage and has a 50% chance of lowering the target’s Defense stat by one stage.
Speculation for Pokémon Go: We might be getting a Water Type move that will have a chance to lower opponent’s Defense.
Cloyster Crawdaunt
Muddy Water Water
Main Series Games: Muddy Water inflicts damage and has a 30% chance of lowering the target’s accuracy by one stage. It was the signature move of Marshtomp and Swampert.
Speculation for Pokémon Go: This might be a Community day Move for Swampert. The one that would make it even more relevant.
Swampert Marshtomp Vaporeon
Quagsire Whiscash Gastrodon
Blastoise Tentacruel Lickitung
Kingdra Omastar Azumarill
Huntail Gorebyss Relicanth
Kyogre
Blaze Kick Fire
Main Series Games: Blaze Kick deals damage and has an increased critical hit ratio. It has a 10% chance of burning the target. It was the signature move of Blaziken.
Speculation for Pokémon Go: We doubt we will get burns, but this will probably be Community day Move for Blaziken.
Blaziken Hitmonlee Infernape
Lucario
