The ‘ber’ months are upon us, and so, spooky season is almost here! For Pokémon GO, that typically means an epic Halloween themed event. Each year I like to speculate what could happen during this event based on certain things that give us clues, so of course I am back again with my best guesses for Halloween 2025.
Remember, this is wild speculation, and lots of me keeping my fingers crossed. Nothing here is official!
What are you hoping to see this Halloween in Pokémon GO?
Halloween typically brings a new addition, and with not many Pokémon left unreleased in Pokémon GO, there aren’t a huge amount of thematic Pokémon to choose from.
Aliens?!
One slightly ‘out there’ choice is for the Blipbug family to debut! Blipbug is a Bug type, and Dottler and Orbeetle are dual Bug and Psychic types. So why would they work as Halloween Pokémon? Because they are inspired by aliens and UFOs!
You may remember that way back in 2024 when the initial Gigantamax Pokémon teaser was released, Gigantamax Orbeetle way one of those featured. It isn’t in GO yet, so it could be a fun option for a spooky release!

Mimikyu
The Pokémon everyone is desperate to see released is of course, Mimikyu. We do now have form changing in Pokémon GO which makes it feel more achievable. A lot more of the Alola region Pokémon have been released this year, and we have been crying out for Mimikyu for years now. It would be amazing for it to be released this year, but I daren’t get my hopes up too much.
Basculegion
Basculegion is the evolution of white-striped Basculin in the Hisui region. It is one of the few Hisuian evolutions we don’t have in game, so has some good potential! It seemed an odd choice when white-stripe Basculin was released without it’s evolution, but as this season is focused on new evolutions, maybe we will finally see Basculegion in GO? It is a Water and Ghost type so the typing fits the spooky theme.
The question is, will we be able to evolve to it, or will it be a raid day Pokémon like so many of the other Hisui evolutions have been? It has both male and female variants too.
It could have an immediate shiny release, which looks like this:

One fun way to predict this year’s potential new costume Pokémon is to take a look at the plushies that are being released for Halloween at the Pokémon Center! The costume pikeman we get in Pokémon GO have been based on these before, in fact in 2024 we got both the Rowlet and Froakie, but not the Fuecoco design, which is exactly what I speculated in my article!
Pikachu typically gets a new costume every year at the Pokémon Center, but it doesn’t always get a new costume in Pokémon GO. This one is pretty cute, I especially like the Drifloon style pumpkin pail, but I am not convinced about whether or not it will actually make its way into GO. We can but hope!

Now this Noibat is kind of hilarious. It is wearing some sort of bonnet and a collar, and would be really funny to see in GO. The key ring style plushies are typically where we see inspiration taken from for new costume Pokémon, so there is a good chance with this one!

The one I think we are most likely to see is this sweet little Teddiursa! The witches hat and the collar are adorable, and very do-able in terms of the design in GO. Plus, it would be a great shiny to hunt for, with the contrast of the bright green shiny and the purple accessories.
I have my fingers crossed for this one. It would be an unexpected option of a costume Pokémon for Halloween, and that makes it more fun. Teddiursa is so child-like, and like a children’s teddy bear, so it being dressed up makes sense.

Another option I think is sadly unlikely is this incredible Drifloon! It would be an epic addition to Pokémon GO, but is it a design they would implement? It references various the Drifloon Pokédex entries that imply that it aims to get children to take it by the hand, to then carry them away to the after-life. In this case, a sweet Pikachu has fallen prey! I could see a slight variation on this, with the Pikachu not in costume, but I don’t know if this one is pushing the concept of costume Pokémon too far.
Another excellent option is this vampire inspired Cyndaquil! It would be fairly easy to do as it is just a cape, though Cyndaquil’s pose in GO is a little awkward. It is seriously cute and would no doubt be a fan favourite if it does make it into GO!
One of the other things we all hope for at Halloween is an incredible new shiny to hunt for, so which could we see this year?
Nickit and Thievul
One I suggested last year and stand by as a fitting choice for Halloween, is the Nickit family. While it isn’t an obvious spooky choice, it has that sly and sneaky vibe that works. Nickit is also one of the featured Pokémon in the seasonal Tales of Transformation autumn stickers, so it is highlighted!

Greavard
Another Pokémon featured in the Tales of Transformation themed stickers is Greavard, and it could be a great option for a shiny debut! It has a gorgeous shiny, with a gold colour for Greavard. Houndstone isn’t quite as as good, instead it’s… hair?!… becomes sort of beige.

Sinistea and Polteageist
A fun option that is a Ghost type, would be Sinistea! With Sinistea having two forms, both Phony and Authentic, it would be a shiny grind of epic proportions to hunt for the Authentic shiny, many of us (me included!), haven’t gotten an Authentic form one full stop yet! It has a great pink shiny that is really pretty.
