Dual type Cards coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket with Mega Mewtwo X ex

Brace yourselves, trainers: Pokémon TCG Pocket is all set to unleash a new layer of strategy and gameplay with a never-before-seen mechanic in Pocket, as well as powerful EX variants of two unlikely but beloved Pokémon. Fasten your seatbelts: TCG Pocket will finally introduce Dual types as early as October 2026, and the first to join the fray is the mighty Mega Mewtwo X! The EX cards also feature Piplup and Fuecoco, two Basics that will change the meta as we know it.

Mega Mewtwo X EX arrives with both Psychic and Fighting types

For the first time in TCG Pocket, a card will wield dual types. Mega Mewtwo X is a Psychic type icon/Fighting type icon type that uses Psychic type icon Energy and is weak to Dark type icon, but can do double duty as a Fighting type icon type offensively.

This is how it works:

  • Dual typing means that a wider pool of Pokémon are weak to its attacks. As such, Mega Mewtwo X’s attacks will do super-effective damage (+20 DMG) to Pokémon weak to Psychic and Fighting. Therefore, deal +20 DMG to Fighting types (weak to Psychic) as well as Metal types (weak to Fighting)
  • It can use all Trainer cards whose effects apply to Psychic and Fighting types. So, you can use Korrina and Arena of Antiquity to boost its damage, and Peculiar Plaza to enjoy a retreat cost of 2 less (free for Mega Mewtwo X EX!). Similarly, it can take Energy from Gardevoir

Mega Mewtwo X will function as a Basic Mega Lucario EX, with Korrina, Arena of Antiquity, and its own move mechanics contributing to 190 DMG

Piplup EX & Fuecoco EX

While EX versions of the base of a three-Pokémon evolution line are no new sight in the physical TCG, they are a first in TCG Pocket!

Piplup EX

Piplup EX is an excellent addition to the game, and it shockingly takes over Mega Sharpedo EX’s role as an energy ramp for Water types. For only 1 Water type icon Energy, it deals 40 DMG and also gives a Water type icon Energy to one of your Benched Pokémon. This can reinstate Palkia EX and make Mega Gyarados EX even stronger.

Fuecoco EX

While you work on evolving Mega Charizard Y or Mega Blaziken, Fuecoco EX gives a fiery head start by not only dealing damage right off the bat, but also doubling up with an insane 120 DMG for only 2 Energy!

October 2026 is shaping up to be a grand affair for Pokémon TCG Pocket, with these new additions that not only instantly shake up the meta but also spice up the game after a dull player base turnout.

Time to start collecting and battling harder than ever, trainers!
