Cacnea and Cacturne in Pokemon GO

Trapinch, Vibrava and Flygon Swablu and Altaria

Pokemon GO Cacturne (Max CP 2092) and Cacnea (Max CP 1080) are two scary additions coming in Generation III. Known also as the Cactus and the Scarecrow Pokemon, this Pokemon family starts as grass a pure type and evolves into a grass / dark type.

Sadly, the Pokemon GO Cacturne does not have enough umph to be of any use. It has an “okay” max CP of 2092. It has a decent ATK (221), but a sub-par DEF (115) and STA (140).

Overall, we don’t really see Cacturne getting much meta-attention.

Cacturne in the meta

As we already mentioned, there’s not much to expect from Cacturne. It has a barely-average Max CP (2092), low DEF (115) and STA (140). The only upside is its hairline-above-average ATK (221).

In fact, Cacturne is very similar to Shiftry, which shares the same dual grass and dark typing. Both Pokemon are mid range glass cannon attackers, benefiting from high ATK and access to a number of decent move combos.

Pokémon GO Cacturne Moves

Best move set: Sucker Punch/Grass Knot

Cacturne has access to the following moves:

  • Poison Jab poison (quick move)
  • Sucker Punch dark (quick move)
  • Dark Pulse dark (charge move, 2 bars)
  • Grass Knot grass (charge move, 2 bars)
  • Dynamic Punch fighting (charge move, 2 bars)

Cacturne suffers from lacking a really good move set. It has a poor dark type quick move compared to the others available. There are just far more superior dark attackers in the game (Houndoom / Tyranitar).

Cacturne with Grass Knot, although a powerful move, still isn’t worth using. Pokémon such as Sceptile, Venusaur and Exxegutor, are a far more viable grass type options to choose from.
