Moves worth pursuing
Important
- Primeape with Rage Fist is a must have move in PvP, combined with legacy Karate Chop and Close Combat. Rage Fist is also the preferred move for PvE, despite Primeape not having much use there.
- Ice Beam Lapras is a monster in the Great League, with Ice Beam being mandatory! It is by far the best move Lapras has in Trainer Battles, combined with Psywave and Sparkling Area. It is not a good move in Raids, but you won’t be using Lapras as a Raid counter anyway.
Others
- Ice Shard is an important move for Dewgong, as it gives him a solid energy generator for PvP, but it’s not a must have. Skip if you don’t have time for this.
- Brutal Swing Hydreigon is a solid Dark-type counter for Raids, but there are so many better and widely available Dark-types (Tyranitar, Shadow Tyra, Mega Tyra, Absol, Houndoom, Gyarados), that the odds of using Hydreigon are quite low. Not a high priority this event.
- Hydro Cannon Greninja is a solid Water-type, but there are so many better options both in PvP and PvE. We don’t recommend spending time if you already have a good Greninja.
Candy and XL Candy Targets
- Mankey evolves into Annihilape or Primeape, both perform well in the Great League, and amazingly in the Ultra League. In order to power them up, you will need plenty of XL Candy. Medicham also needs XL Candy to reach appropriate level for topping Great League matches
- Deino evolves into Hydreigon, which is an S-Tier Dark-type attacker, and despite many other Dark types being available, it is a great addition to your team.
- Froakie evolves into Greninja, and we are bound to see Ash Greninja at one point in Pokémon GO, which can only make Froakie Candy more valuable
