Featured Pokémon: Tyrunt and Amaura
Research Day events focus on certain Pokémon encounters being rewarded for completing exclusive Field Research tasks. Players will be able to catch multiple Tyrunt and Amaura, enjoying increased chances of finding their stunning shinies.
Is Tyrunt worth farming?
Tyrunt
A 100% Tyrunt from Field Research will have 700 CP, guaranteed to be 15/15/15 IV. Tyrunt and Tyrantrum are not PvP-relevant, but Tyrantrum has potential as a Rock-type attacker in Raids, especially in its Shadow form. Tyrunt is a Rock and Dragon type Pokémon.
In PvE, Shadow Tyrantrum is a solid pick. With Rock Throw and Meteor Beam moveset, it performs well against Flying-types and Fire-types. It’s a high DPS attacker, and it can go toe to toe with stronger Rock-types like Rampardos or Rhyperior. Regular Tyrantrum is strong, but Shadow is what you really want.
In PvP, Tyrantrum is fragile and limited by a slow moveset, but in limited formats or with the right fast move, it can sometimes become a surprise threa, but very rarely and Aurorus is usually much better at PvP.
Is Amaura worth farming?
Amaura
A 100% IV Amaura from Field Research will have 584 CP, with perfect 15/15/15 IVs. Amaura itself has limited use, and its evolution Aurorus is not much better. It does bring a rather strong type coverage as a Rock / Ice-type, but only in Trainer Battles, especially Great League and Ultra League.
In Trainer Battles, Aurorus can work well opponents with moves like Powder Snow, Weather Ball (Ice) and Meteor Beam, giving it coverage against Flying, Dragon, and Fire-types. However, it’s double weakness to Fighting and Steel attacks makes it rather easily countered by meta relevant Pokémon. Still, it can be a great spammer and create strong shield pressure.
From a PvE perspective, Aurorus is not great, but it’s a viable budget Gym defender.
