This Spotlight Hour is the second February 2025 Pokémon spotlight. Trainers who plan to participate should be prepared with a Mega Pokémon to maximise candy gains per ‘mon caught. Here’s everything you need to know!
Bonuses ⭐
- You will get 2x XP for catching Pokémon
- The featured Pokémon and its evolution can be shiny in Pokémon GO
Note on XP Bonus
If you do not want to catch the featured Pokémon, you can make use of the 2x catch XP bonus by catching any saved Scatterbug, or opening a Mystery Box or Coin Bag! Remember to stack 2 Lucky Eggs if you’re out for the duration of Spotlight Hour, or make use of Roar of Time to pause your timers.
Inkay is a Dark and Psychic-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO. As a Dark and Psychic-type Pokémon, Inkay is especially weak against Bug-type moves, and weak against Fairy-type moves.
Inkay’s maximum Combat Power stat is 1048 CP, and its best Pokémon GO moves are Psywave and Night Slash. Inkay encounters are boosted during Fog and Windy weather. Shiny Inkay is available! ✨
How to evolve Inkay into Malamar
Shiny Inkay
Shiny Inkay is easy to spot. Its usual blue colouring turns yellow.

The following Pokémon will grant you extra bonuses when catching Inkay if they are Mega/Primal evolved. We highly recommend Mega Evolving a Pokémon during this event to get as much candy as possible!
A Note on Mega Catch Bonus
While a Pokémon is Mega-Evolved, additional XP and Candy is granted when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it, or for any raid boss caught. These do not stack with each other. Additionally, High and Max Level Mega-Evolved Pokémon grant an increased chance to obtain Candy XL when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it.
PVE
⚔️ Raids
Malamar isn’t strong enough to be a top Dark- or Psychic-type attacker—better to leave that to others.
🛡️ Gyms
Malamar is a C-tier defender—decent but not amazing.
PVP
Preferred Moveset
Psywave, Foul Play & Superpower
🧸 Little League
If Malamar is ever allowed into Little League, it will perform very strongly, but that seems like a long shot.
🔵 Great League
Malamar is a very good generalist pick for the open Great League. With the ability to hit almost every opponent for at least neutral damage, it acts as a very good safe swap in the current meta. Although not particularly strong, its strength lies in its ability to gain either shield advantage or switch advantage thanks to its fast and effective moveset.
🟡 Ultra League
Malamar operates very similarly in Ultra League as it does in Great League, excelling as a generalist that can put a dent in any opponent, even during losing matchups. Definitely worth the investment in the current meta.
🟣 Master League
Malamar’s strengths cap out at Ultra League, and it can’t compete in the highest CP formats.
