Blast form the past – Remembering 2018 Earth Day cleanup event

Back in 2018, in partnership with Mission Blue, Niantic organised a Worldwide Cleanup event that took place on April 22. More than 30 local cleanup events took place in 12 countries around the world. We wrote about it extensively in our Pokémon GO Earth Day 2018 Cleanup event announced article.

The event was a slam dunk, bringing together more than 4200 trainers that participated in 68 cleanup events across 19 countries. In total, around 4300 kilograms and debris have been collected. Niantic shared a blog post about it, and Mission Blue, the organization founded by legendary ocean explorer and activist Dr. Sylvia Earle, received more than $5,000 in donations from players and a $250,000 donation from Niantic and The Pokémon Company.

We miss things like this – maybe we can get them back and get people out of their houses again?
