Gigalith
Dynamax
It’s time to rock n’ roll!
Dynamax Roggenrola is making its debut in Pokémon GO starting Monday, 26 January 2026. and its final evolution, Dynamax Gigalith, is shaping up to be one of the most impactful Dynamax releases we’ve seen in a while.
With neither of its Fast Attacks being ideal for Max Meter generation – Smack Down ([Rock], 1.0s) and Mud-Slap ([Ground], 1.5s), Gigalith isn’t designed to play a support role. Instead, it thrives exactly where it matters the most – as a Rock-type attacker. And in that role, Gigalith delivers a massive upgrade to the current Max meta.
Let’s break down how Dynamax Gigalith fits into the current meta, and how long it can hold onto its spot as the meta-definining Rock-type attacker in Max content.
Before Roggenrola’s arrival, Dynamax Omastar had been the default Rock attacker in Max content. With a base ATK of 207, it stood clearly above the rest of an extremely limited field, with Dynamax Blastoise trailing far behind, and Dynamax Shuckle… well, it’s clearly not a Pokémon fitting an attacking role, isn’t it? In fact, Omastar had been so central to the Rock attacker role that it has been regarded as the go-to Pokémon for the attacker role for the upcoming Dynamax Ho-Oh Max Battle Weekend, where Ho-Oh’s double weakness to Rock makes the typing especially valuable.
That reign ends with the release of Roggenrola and Gigalith.
With a base ATK of 226, Dynamax Gigalith out does Omastar by nearly 10%, immediately becoming the highest damage-dealing Rock attacker currently available in Max content in Pokémon GO. This is not just a marginal improvement, but a notable jump in damage output that cleanly puts Gigalith up there as the new face of the element. As a result, Dynamax Gigalith now stands as the #1 damage dealer against Dynamax Ho-Oh, making its debut not just powerful, but timely as well.

No meta king rules forever.
The real question isn’t if Gigalith gets outclassed — it’s when, and by which Pokémon.
Looking first at existing Gigantamax options from the mainline games, it is noted that only Gigantamax Coalossal is capable of dealing Rock-type Max damage. However, with just 146 base ATK, G-Max Coalossal falls short by a wide margin, dealing over 20% less damage than Dynamax Gigalith. Thus, it poses no real threat to our debuting Pokémon.
The more serious competition lies elsewhere, amongst Pokémon that don’t yet have a Max form, but almost certainly will in the future.

Pokémon like Landorus (Therian / Incarnate Forme) and Terrakion may take time to arrive, likely tied to major debut events similar to Dynamax Ho-Oh. But others, such as Tyrantrum, Lycanroc, Rhyperior, Glimmora, Tyranitar, and Rampardos could receive their Max debut far more suddenly.
Should that happen, the gap can be brutal. Sure, Gigalith may still remain relatively safe if Pokémon like Tyrantrum or Lycanroc enter the scene, as their damage output sits very close to Gigalith’s own; but it is game over the moment Rampardos enters the scene. Rampardos will completely blow past Gigalith, outclassing it by over 30% in damage output to become the new, and undisputed #1 Rock-type damage dealer.
There’s no question that Dynamax Gigalith will eventually be outclassed, but at the point of its release today, it stands firmly as the #1 Rock-type Dynamax attacker in Pokémon GO.
Among the only Pokémon currently capable of dealing Rock-type Max damage – Gigalith, Omastar, Blastoise, and.. alright fine, Shuckle – Gigalith sits comfortably at the top. With 226 ATK, it outdamages its closest competitor, Omastar (207 ATK), by nearly 10%, offering a clear and immediate upgrade with real battlefield impact.
Its release timing couldn’t be better, arriving just days before Dynamax Ho-Oh battles, where Rock-type attackers shine brightest. For trainers looking to optimise their Max lineups, Dynamax Gigalith is definitely worth the investment.
Dynamax Gigalith is strongly recommended in the Attacker role in Max content, far more so than as a support Pokémon due to its lack of a 0.5s Fast Attack. A Dynamax Roggenrola that has 15 ATK IV should already be an ideal copy and a win for any trainers wanting to farm for this Pokémon, and the rest of the Max Monday event can be dedicated to farm out more of its candies in preparation for the Dynamax Ho-Oh battles the same weekend.
