The
representative of the Regi-family, Dynamax Regice, makes its Max debut in Pokémon GO starting Monday, 23 March 2026. As a legendary raid boss, Regice should be familiar to most long-time players, having returned multiple times in both its standard and Shadow forms. However, it has never been a standout attacker in the raid meta.
Could Max battles tell a different story? With a more limited pool of usable Pokémon in this mode, who knows, Dynamax Regice may finally find an opportunity to carve out a niche in terms of utility.

Having Rock Smash and Frost Breath as its fast moves, Regice has access to
Max Knuckle and
Max Hailstorm. However, with only 179 ATK, it falls significantly behind top-tier damage dealers of both types – most notably
Gigantamax Machamp (≈68% higher DPS) and
Dynamax Glaceon (≈33% higher DPS).
Where Regice truly stands out is its tankiness. With 309 DEF and 190 HP, it boasts top-tier defensive stats alongside above-average stamina. Having
Lock-On, a 0.5s fast move, would also further reinforce its role as a dedicated tank in Max battles rather than an attacker.
On paper, Dynamax Regice has all the makings of an exceptional tank: extremely high DEF combined with a 0.5s fast move – a rare pairing seen only in a handful of Pokémon, dated all the way back since the summer of 2025 with the release of Crowned Shield Zamazenta. However, its typing significantly limits its applicability. Regice only resists one type in Pokémon GO –
– which sharply narrows the scenarios where it can truly prove its worth.
In the current meta, Dynamax Regice ranks approximately #3 as a tank against
damage, behind Crowned Shield Zamazenta and Gigantamax Lapras, though the gap is not particularly large. This makes it a viable choice against bosses that rely heavily on
attacks, such as Dynamax Articuno – assuming sufficient investment in levels and Candies / XL Candies.
It is also worth mentioning that stats-wise, Dynamax Walrein may appear bulkier on paper compared to Dynamax Regice; however, its lack of a 0.5s fast move limits its Max meter generation, and therefore its overall effectiveness as a tank. As such, it is not considered a direct competitor in this role.

Beyond
match-ups, Dynamax Regice can still function as a serviceable neutral tank. It ranks within the top 10 against
,
, and
damage among currently available Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokémon. That said, this is unlikely to remain the case long-term. As the Max roster expands, Regice is expected to be heavily powercrept; and at best, it will retain a position as a niche
tank rather than one that can be used in different battles in the same mold of Dynamax Blissey.
Overall, Dynamax Regice is a niche tank whose primary value lies in countering Ice attacks. It can be worth building if you lack alternatives such as Crowned Shield Zamazenta or Gigantamax Lapras. It has it’s uses, but given its limited scope and poor long-term outlook, it is not a high-priority investment. Most players are better off farming it passively using free Max Particles, especially considering the 15,000 Stardust cost per battle. If you have yet to have the opportunity to obtain a decent tank, Regice is a good substitute! The 0.5s fast move is a good help, and you may find you have plenty of Regice candy as there hasn’t been much reason to invest in one before.
If you do choose to build one, prioritize IVs in the order of HP > DEF > ATK to maximize its effectiveness as a tank with an already high DEF value out of the box.
