Hisuian Typhlosion as a Raid Attacker (Quick Analysis)

Raid Day: Hisuian Typhlosion happens on Sunday, January 14, from 2-5pm. In this article, we will take a very quick look at whether it sees relevance as a raid attacker. If you are looking for a quick list of counters for defeating this Pokémon in Raids, you are probably looking for our Hisuian Typhlosion Raid Guide.

Main Points

Hisuian Typhlosion, as it is today without Blast Burn, is pretty bad as a Fire attacker and mediocre as a Ghost attacker. It’s outclassed by many other attackers in both roles, even though it’s not absolutely worthless (especially for those who love it and/or don’t have many other options).

Like the other Hisuian starters, it is possible for Hisuian Typhlosion to receive Blast Burn in a future event, but it’s uncertain if, when and how it will happen. While Blast Burn will be a substantial upgrade for Hisuian Typhlosion and lets it outperform its Johtonian counterpart, it will remain below the likes of Community Day Delphox and many others.

  • The same applies to Shadow Hisuian Typhlosion if it ever becomes a thing.
  • Do note that for raids, the theoretical best use for any Cyndaquil (shadow or regular) will be in its Hisuian form. That is, if you believe we will be able to evolve them one day.

Hisuian Typhlosion as a Fire-type attacker

As a Fire-type attacker, Hisuian Typhlosion is more or less terrible today, since Ember and Overheat are not great moves. Once (and if) it gets Fire Blast, it becomes a decent attacker that performs better than Charizard and Flareon. The silver lining is that Hisuian Typhlosion blows regular Typhlosion out of the water, so at least it has that going for it.

Hisuian Typhlosion compared to other Dark and Shadow-type attackers

As a Dark/Ghost attacker, H-Typhlosion is borderline, performing in line with Zoroark and Gengar, slightly better than Houndoom, but way behind Weavile and Chandelure. It is mediocre, but serviceable in some scenarios.
