Cobalion is a Steel and Fighting Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation V. Cobalion is a member of the Swords of Justice, a group of Legendary Pokemon introduced in Generation V, often called the Legendary musketeers by Pokémon fans. The Swords of Justice are Cobalion, alongside Terrakion, Virizion and Keldeo. These Pokemon were infamous for their ability Justified and their moves having a strong connection to combat and swordplay – similar to real life Musketeers. They are based on The Three Musketeers story by Alexandre Dumas.

Swords of Justice were also known for sharing the same secondary typing: Fighting. Their main types are distinct, and they are linked to different Musketeers:
- Cobalion is Steel and Fighting type Pokémon, represents Athos, the oldest Musketeer and the leader of the group
- Terrakion is a Rock and Fighting type Pokémon, represents Porthos, the heaviest and the largest Musketeer
- Virizion is a Grass and Fighting type Pokémon, represents Aramasi, the romantic Musketeer
- Keldeo is a Water and Fighting type Pokémon, represents d’Artagnan, the youngest Musketeer
