Hello Trainers,
Niantic has announced that they are bringing back Community day voting! This time around the Pokémon that trainers will be choosing from will be Squirtle, Weedle, Sandshrew, and Gastly.
If you remember back in February trainers were asked to venture out into the world, spin Pokéstops and complete special field research to vote for which Pokémon they wanted to see as the next Community Day Spotlight.
This time will be a little bit different, as the voting will be conducted on Twitter! From So get those tweeting fingers ready trainers because the Pokémon that receives the most votes will be the Community day Pokémon featured in June and the runner up will be the Community day Pokémon featured in July.
Niantic will be posting a poll on their official Pokémon GO Twitter. You will be able to vote from Saturday, May 23, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7) until Sunday, May 24, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7). That is a full 24 hours of voting, with the winners being announced shortly after the voting ends.
Meet the Candidates
Squirtle
Special Move: Aura Sphere Fighting
If you evolve Wartortle to Blastoise it will learn the Fighting-type attack Aura Sphere. At the moment, only Lucario can learn Aura Sphere, so it will be a very unique move-set. Aura Sphere will give Blastoise a leg up against steel-types in PvP such as Registeel.
Weedle
Special Move: Drill Run Ground
If you evolve Kakuna to Beedrill it will learn the Ground-type attack Drill Run. Combine Beedrill’s Bug and Poison moves with a Ground-type move for some interesting move-sets. Beedrill could even threaten Azumaril when it has shields left. The ground type move will also give Beedrill coverage against Fire and Rock-types.
Sandshrew
Special Move: Shadow Claw Ghost
if Sandshrew wins, Kanto Sandshrew will be appearing more often in the wild and hatching from eggs, while Alolan Sandshrew will be appearing in raid battles.
If you evolve either version of Sandshrew to Sandslash it will learn the Ghost-type fast attack Shadow Claw. This would particularly benefit Alolan Sandslash the most as Shadow Claw is stronger than Powder Snow. This will improve its stock as a Giratina counter in the Ultra League.
Gastly
Special Move: Shadow Punch Ghost
If you evolve Haunter to Gengar it will learn the Ghost-type move Shadow Punch. Shadow Punch will provide some shield bait opportunities as Shadow Punch charges very quickly, and could be useful to burn your opponents’ shields down.
