Power Spots are live!
Power Spots are a new type of map marker you can encounter on the overworld map. They are not replacing any of the existing PokéStops or Gyms. Interacting with a Power Spot rewards Max Particles, but only once per day per Spot.
Here is what we know about Power Spots:
- You get about 120 Max Particles per Power Spot
- They are completely separate to PokéStops and Gyms
- Auto catchers auto collect particles if nearby
- It is unclear which data is used to create Power Spots
- Seems to use Niantics Waypoints from other games
Early speculation indicates Waypoints from other Niantic game, which were previously unused in Pokémon GO – probably Ingress Portals.
Each Power Spot has a timer, but it is not clear what it does, or to what event is it counting down. According to one report, it looks like Power Spots will start to appear at 12pm local time in your area.
Powering up and unlocking Max Moves
You can level up all Max Moves from Level 1 to Level Max (level 3), and it costs a set amount of Max Particles, and that Pokémon’s Candy and Candy XL. Here are the costs:
- Your Dynamax Pokémon has 1 Max move, Max Guard (shield) and Max Spirit (heal)
- Unlocking Max Guard and Max Spirit costs 400 Max Particles and 50 Candy each.
- Maxing each out you need a total of 1,800 Max Particles, 150 Candy and 40 Candy XL
