Major Changes Made to Pokéstop Showcases

A major change has been made to how PokéStop Showcases work, making them fairer across the board when it comes to type based Showcases.

These new changes will debut with the new Normal-type PokéStop Showcases that will run until Wednesday, September 18th 2024.

Previously when entering a type-based Showcase certain species that are naturally taller than others would always win. For example, when a Flying type Showcase was held previously, you needed a Celesteela to compete successfully because it is so much bigger than all other Flying types. Even with XXL Flying type Pokémon you couldn’t compare to a Celesteela.

With the new update, instead each species will be scored by their relative size within their own species. The overall size of the Pokémon no longer matters. This means that any XXL Pokémon is now competitive and could win!

This means you now have a real reason to hold onto XXL Pokémon of any species in the hopes of winning a Showcase, not just the largest species of that particular typing. A XXL Pidgey could now beat a Celesteela in a Flying type showcase, because it is measured against it’s own species, rather than against all Pokémon within that typing. No longer will Regigigas dominate the Normal type Showcase if it isn’t a XXL, a non-XXL Regigigas could easily be beaten by XXL Skitty!

For example, a Skitty that is 10 points bigger than all over Skitty, would beat a Regigigas that is just 9 points bigger than other Regigigas.

PokéStop Showcases will now be a lot more competitive, and newer players who may have missed out on some of the naturally huge Pokémon can compete!

Now we just need to finally see a XXS PokéStop Showcase…
